1. I seriously doubt he left on his own
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 08:34 AM by Aidoneus
he has apparently given an address after arriving in the C.A.R., en route to South Africa.

2. It's that 'apparently' part....
There are only a few third-person accounts of this 'address'. There have been no first-person statements from Aristide since he was taken by US Marines from his residence.

He ended up in CAR because he refused to ask for asylum himself. The CAR was one of the few countries willing to accept him from US custody without his consent.

BTW, more coverage of this on Democracy Now this morning. Rep. Maxine Waters on now.

Pacifica & Democracy Now's coverage of this has been excellent.

now going to South Africa as soon as papers completed - (he will be allowed to live as long as he says nothing - this just my guess as to the allowed to live part).

6. Did anyone hear
Congresswoman Maxine Waters say that she has spoken to Aristide and he has confirmed to her that he was kidnapped? It was just mentioned on Democracy Now.

7. I heard Maxine Waters on DN this morning
I didn't hear that exact quote. I must have gotten up for coffee at the wrong time...So she HAS spoken to Aristide at this point?

All I'd heard so far was that Aristide's lawyer had been contacted by Mildred Aristide late last night (US time). He said she was only allowed to state that they were okay, and in the C.A.R.. He said she wasn't able to speak about what had happened yesterday, nor how they arrived in the C.A.R.

More info if you hear it, please!
