Are Americans more important than other peoples?
In a universal sense, I'd say no. However, when we are talking about President Bush's Crimes, well, than I think his crimes against Americans are more relevant than his crimes against other peoples of the world.

Consider the following analogy. Two men. One guy's driving through the countryside and he sees a herd of sheep on someone else's property. He gets out and starts punching the sheep and hitting them with sticks and what not.

The second guy gets hired as a shepard put in charge of the sheep and then, beceause he is bored, also proceeds to beat up the sheep and hit them with sticks.

Which man is more guilty? They are both guilty for the harm they caused the sheep, but the second man is also guilty of betraying those who hired him and hence is more despicable.

I could be wrong in my thinking on this, but if you believe that President Bush allowd September 11th to happen deliberatly (not he didn't bother to read the memos, but he read them and decided that it would be good for his political career to do nothing) or if you believe he helped it to happen, wouldn't that be a crime that would dwarf both Afghanistan and Iraq? Not that Iraqi Lives are worth less than Americans (they aren't) but that President Bush had a sworn duty to protect Americans, and no such duty to protect Iraqis?

I could be wrong though.

1. We are to ourselves...
...just as other people are more important to themselves. I think it's called human nature. reality will find that we, and those other people, are no more or less important to the Universe at large than the zit on God's ass.

4. But Americans have elevated it to a fine art
Yes yes I know not ALL of you. There is a widespread feeling/suspicion outside of the US that to Americans other peoples lives do simply not count. This is reinforced by the fact that many American papers do not report on tragedies in other places unless they are huge, such as Bam, and even worse, when they do report they only report on the American dead. They first time I noticed this I was astonished, now I am just disgusted.

This being said, I agree that every group thinks that they are more important, but it is a matter of degree and also of awareness of others or even that others exist.

7. I think you would find that to be true...

...in most countries around the world. We simply have a way of being a bigger ass about it than most. Remember that perception and reality do not always coincide, and you will almost always see the other country as more in violation than your own.

11. Americans really HAVE elevated it to a fine art -- witness all the
"God Bless America" shit.

I really hate that phrase -- to me the implicit unsaid next phrase is "and God screw all those worthless brown people".

Shortly after the Sept. 11th attacks, a gas station in OKC had a sign that said "God Bless the World" -- I like that so much better (even though I don't believe in all that God-nonsense)

15. Nothing wrong with being pro-America.
Nor is ther anything wrong with being pro-Iraq, France, Canada, et. al. It is your own bias and prejudice which make you hear that second part.

Is being blindly anti-American any better than being blindly pro-American?

and acted without regard to human life in another country,I'd say, Bush committed a crime against Iraqi people for his own self-serving agenda.

The buck stops at the Oval office. He said, he was the "war President" and take responsibility for it. Well...he was wrong and should pay the piper.

He can't blame Ashcroft for mis-indentifying the terrorists...because he was responsible to check the information as being true. Who said, we don't need an intelligent leader only good advisors?

He acted quickly to avoid other countries (UN) getting the profit out of Iraq. Just like now with Haiti.

It's not Americans that think, they are more important than others. But Bush who convinces them that we are here (under his God) to act for their (Iraq, Haiti, Afghanistan, etc.) "own good". I certainly don't.

10. I don't want to exonorate President Bush
For his crimes against the Iraqi people. Just to suggest that if he had allowed or caused 3,000 Americans to die that might be the larger crime.

6. Of Course Not
Of course Americans are not more important than other peoples. This very notion is why we find ourselves in the situation we are internationally. Wonder why Americans are hated? Self-importance plays a major role.

Nor do I think Bush deliberately let the events of 9/11 occur. I don't think he was engaged enough in what was going on- it would be more negligent ignorance than a deliberate ignorance.

Any President has the responsibility to protect Americans. However, as a human being a person has much more to consider. Bush's Christian beliefs should cause him to view war as the last alternative to a problem. Then again, by that logic we open a whole other bag o' pretzels!

9. when my mouth truly dropped
when i started hearing people say out loud on tv at least the terrorist are in iraq now fighting our soldiers. better there than on our soil. i asked people if they felt that way and they would say yes. but but but.........you christian, it is ok for innocents to be murdered cause we created it, as long as we are ok here. can you say wimp....if we are going to do battle, we should be willing to lose our lives, not anothers.

yes we are that arrogant

but i dont think this was what the post is about. should we even be more angry cause we (not me) voted for this man, and he betrayed us, along with rest of world. but we were the ones who voted. i say yes, that makes since.

12. Are Americans more important than other peoples?
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 11:39 AM by higher class
Most Americans believe they are more important. They are wrong.
Many Americnas believe they are superior. They are wrong.

If you break it down, we have been superior in modern day technology and were once strong (not superior) in the areas of work ethic and contribution. That's it.

But, then if you count... military might...combined with tax money of the hard working citizens, you get...

the ability to use the tax money of the hard working citizens to buy off other countries or maime them.

Is that superiority? Is that more important?

All the good of America through assistance is in our PAST history. All the good of America in other countries PRESENT is voluntary by the people - disasters, peace corps people.

We are now predatory, dictatorial, imperializing, colonializing, and threatening liars.

Those people who are so threatened by the lack of male-female family stucture to raise children are more than content to allow this country to lie to the children about what they claim this country is and how it is so important.

First, define importance.

Responded to the title instead of the body of my article. I should have reworded it perhaps, but wanted the grabber thingy.

Do American lives count for more than the lives of other poeples when evaluating the Crimes of President Bush?
