CNN! Blitzer does Diebold Voting Problems and clips w/Bev Harris!
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 05:36 PM by KoKo01
Just saw a "Feature" segment on Blitzer's 5:00 p.m. show where all the problems with Diebold were addressed. Went to Maryland where they showed the computer experts mentioned by Bev in the original work she did here on BBV were shown "hacking the voting machine." Mentioned that the how the code can be corrupted, and had some Maryland voting official saying "all the problems have been fixed," but the reporter (not Blitzer) showed how all the problems had not been fixed mentioning that California is investigating the last election (you know who) because there were voting irregularities with the Touch Screen voting.

Said that Calif. will evaluate the machines and if there are still problems they will NOT use them in the 2004 Election!

The Maryland Election Official said that people have asked for "paper receipts" but in her mind it wasn't necessary.

Then the reporter does clips back and forth with Bev (you go girl!) Harris countering the sour faced Maryland Election Official.

It was great! Excellent work and unusual in that Blitzer used a CNN Female reporter (I've not seen her before) who did the work on the story and congratulated her for a good job!

Thought you all would like to know this one piece of good news today with all the other dark stuff out there.
On Edit: I was so excited I couldn't get it all down, but believe me it was a great report exposing almost all of the problems although it left out the Diebold lawsuits and Bev having the problems with Diebold accusing the "Code" of being stolen. The report DID mention that Diebold claimed their code was stolen...but just in passing without depth. STILL this is good news because the average viewer would have been concerned with this report the way it was done. We must be thankful for "small favors" here. This was better than a "small favor," imho, though!

1. Good News.
Can you believe that we are already in March of 2004 and this story is still to get the attention it deserves?

12. mp3 & vp3 here
1 M mp3

14 M vp3
It plays with QuickTime player. Vp3 is an awesome new (well, fairly new) codec, providing better quality video and smaller file sizes than Sorenson3, which is what I used to use.

To install the vp3 codec in your quicktime player, download this file to disk, then try opening it with quicktime player, which will then ask if you want it to download the vp3 codec from Apple, then just pick yes.

22. Thanks Wonk... and Bev, is this the new memo you were talking about...
Wonk.. VP3 rocks.. so much smaller and cool quality...

Bev.. the report uses a great memo that I haven't seen before in which a programmer, presumably, says that the Smart Cards have no security and he imagines the USA Today cover story...

This is very cool and exactly where we want this story to go.

Diebold really is looking increasingly like grilled bread.

2. IMHO..
:boring: I guess I should be "tickled" that the subject was even brought up on Blitzer's show, but when you just said it was... "just in passing without depth" that is a monumental understatment. I tried to view it as a completely "uninformed" viewer would, and it certainly didn't "alarm" me. Of course, with my perspective, I thought they should have been screaming to the rooftops at how dangerous the situation is and how it is THE greatest threat to democracy as we know it.

Instead, they show that "person" who is in charge of the machines in Maryland (?) saying that she thought having a paper copy was just SO unnecessary; then they had the little clip of what could have been construed as a rebuff by Bev Harris as she said, "It's just our vote". Well, taken out of context that could mean anything.

Yes, I'm glad it showed up in the mainstream media at all. Did it make a strong impression, and was the story very well done? The answer to that is still a resounding NO!

3. Right On THe Ball CNN - Day Before Primary
slackers - I suppose any exposure is good exposure - but will they just let it fade away and bring this up again 11/01/2004?

And did I see where Cheney is on Larry King - at 7PM when SUPER FUCKING TUESDAY polls are closing tomorrow? White House sure manipulates media whores.

9. As I said. we are "thankful for small, teeny favors these days." but it
was better than I hoped for or expected because I didn't see it previewed or promo'd here on DU....I turned it on and it was great to see two photo ops with Bev Harris and know how many DU'ers contributed to her being out there by running CODE!

I think it's important..because DU really did help Bev tremendously and she would thank us for that, also. I did nothing, but so many DU'ers who know "Code/Programming" helped her.

I think it's good to know that what some here do and maybe all of us here do....counts for something out there in the world! :toast: DU/BEV!

4. Right. Like the DEM PRIMARY will be the problem?
Of course, CNN will cover this story NOW and claim that the machines work just fine.

It's November we have to worry about! It's BushCo we have to worry about! NOT THE DEM PRIMARY!

6. Sounds like California will be "Secure" but not anyplace else......
although....now that I think about it, he didn't quote Auhhhnold on this but instead quoted "California Election Officials." So, maybe Blitzer was playing games?

7. the Kollateral Damage will be everywhere else
But everybody knows the people's republik of Kalifornia is already a blue state. Therefore it's a foregone konklusion, and no group or korporation kan manipulate it for polikal reasons like Enron did in '01.

8. A peverted thought
Maybe it's my sense of humor but somehow I would find it comforting if any of our Dem candidates could subvert the electronic voting system and get themselves the nomination. Why??--because then I would have the comfort of knowing they could do hand to hand combat in election throwing rather than being dumb virgins who can't figure out that again the presidential election was stolen. If it "takes a thief", I hope to God we have a damn good cat burgler!!!!

17. Well, it's an evil thought. Get our own Dem Programmers to do Evil work
and beat them at their own game. I don't know....they've had so many years of practices starting before even the Watergate Burglary....

However, they always use the same old tricks like going after the Senatorial Computers to get memos about the Judge Strategizin...but still if they want to play that dirty and get away with it....maybe it's time to fight fire with fire?

10. I was very skeptical of Bev at first here on DU, but she's really done a
great job of getting this issue out there. Sometimes I think I'm too much a "purist" and "suspicious" of everyone after "Selection 2000."

But, she and the DU'ers who contributed HUGELY to her effort need to get many :toast: 's here. And, Bev, herself, I think would be here in the cheering section. This was a BIG DU EFFORT!

We have many sucesses we don't see...and I think that's why we need to stay here and in the words of a departed DU'er, from the old days:

"We Dems 'gotta keep on truckin'"

I say that in honor of "psychoblues" who had one too many for the road....a few times...but his sig. sticks in my mind. :toast: pshycho...!

13. I am sorry for being such a dumb a**
Why are we all thinking this election could be subverted by the Repuks? Durely we have some creative programmers in our party too!

I admit, all I was thinking about was being beaten by the oposition, but I was WRONG!

I've said all along.....fight back with the same amunition you are being attacked by.

I hate it when we can't trust our own elections and have been sendung reps to a lot of different countries to make sure theirs were fair.

Maybe we need Jimmy Carter clones to be with us this year!

15. Well of course Dem programmers could also tamper with the machines
Which is very good ammo to convince the right that we need a voter verified paper ballot and random audits. If they think WE might rig it, maybe they'll do something about it.

19. I disagree.
If there is a Repug plan at work, the thought that it could be undermined is a plus for us not a neg.

That just might be the best plan of attack....the idea that either party could manipulate the election.

We WANT to win the hearts and minds of Republicans. Republicans are voters too. Why wouldn't they want to be sure that their vote was counted correctly?

23. Thanks KoKo! And how about a few thank you notes to Wolfie...
...while we're at it? A little attaboy to keep him motivated wouldn't hurt.

I know several of you think he and CNN didn't do enough, but look at it this way: this is March and the General Election is eight months away!!! A lot could happen between now and then, and there's a chance that some of it could be in our favor.

Give Wolfie his attaboy now, and we can keep nudging him to give us more each week. Getting this info onto CNN in the first place is a big deal, and if our prayers are answered maybe Wolf will "get religion" regarding BBV and have it be one of his themes the way Lou Dobbs has been unrelentingly picking away at job loss in his Exporting America series.

I know this is maybe too optimistic, but I so seldom feel like there's any reason to be.

This one's for you, KoKo :toast:
