Bad news from UFCW strike

Its over, and we lost. The union had to swallow most of the terms the companies put forward. Everyone who is in a union job get ready, because I am dead sure that you guys, sad to say, will be next if Bush isn't beat. I had to lose my job because of the strike due to a work school conflict, I just hope that the Union will be able to get back on their feet after this, we lost a lot of money fighting.

1. They caved

Those shitty, weak negotiators...they caved to management. Why the fuck didn't they tell them to drop-dead!!!!!!! It was a game of chicken, and the union got scared off. They could have won it - this is bad news for the future of organizing and contract negotiation.

4. Watched the report on NPB this evening and it sure didn't

look good for what the unions accepted.
I sure hope they can get this turned around after putting a Dem in the WH. Who's gonna buy anything if everybody's making minimum wage and not receiving benefits?:shrug:

From what I saw the terms didn't look too good. I was on the line for all of October here in St. Louis and we came out okay but, just okay. You are right that * needs to become ex president and spend his time on the book and speaking tours. Working people union or not are being screwed.

6. I hate to say it but the last time I went out on strike, the union

settled for less than the company originally offered because the workers were desperate to get back to work. I am beginning to think that striking is not the best method of negotiation anymore. It just opens the jobs to those people who are willing to accept less. Also the companies know how to make the situation work for them. I don't know how you would deal with lockouts. I am really stumped by this one.

7. Thousands of San Diego workers cast their votes Saturday

Most workers said the final deal was better than they expected, and worth walking out for.

Southern California grocery workers voted by a ratio of nearly 8-to-1 during the weekend to approve a new contract and end the longest supermarket strike in U.S. history, the food workers union said last night.

When all the votes were counted, 86 percent were in favor of the deal.
