Urgent Action Needed: Haitians in Haiti are being slaughtered
Urgent Action Needed: Haitians in Haiti are being slaughtered.

Emergency Action Alert
Mar 1 2004

Urgent Action Needed.
Haitians in Haiti are being slaughtered.

by Marguerite Laurent, Esq. Chair, Haitian Lawyers Leadership

Our Black people in Port-au-Prince Haiti are being slaughtered. The duly elected President kidnapped by U.S. Marines and flown out of the country at gunpoint and is being held hostage in the Central African Republic under U.S and French guard.

Yesterday, it is reported that, under U.S. marine escort the former FRAPH/FAHD thugs rolled into Port-au-Prince.

Aristide's private residence has been trashed.

The Prime Minister's residence has been trashed.

The first order of business for these U.S. supported death squad leaders and (Guy Philip, Jean Tatoune and Louis Jodel Chamblain) harden criminals was to go to the National Penitentiary and forcibly break out all the 2000 prisoners there.

Now these murderers have more murderers to help them terrorize Haiti.

Practically every building Aristide and the Haitian people built these last 10 years are being burned down and destroyed. Meanwhile the U.S. troops, French troops, Canadian troops are protecting their own edifices in Haiti. No one is protecting the more than 850 million investment per year hard working Haitians of the Diaspora have invested in the security, development, shelter and nurturing of their relatives, children and family in Haiti.

This just in from Port-au-Prince: The SOPUDEP (Organization for the Socioeconomic Development of Petionville) school, which provides a free education and hot lunch program for over 400 of the poorest children in the community, is being threatened. Opposition thugs and former military have spread word through the neighborhood that they are planning to attack and burn the school very soon. The administration and staff take this threat very seriously and many of them have already gone into hiding until the situation changes.

2. hard to believe that there are those on DU that justify this coup
because aristide was 'corrupt'. they view a US sponsored coup as a fitting form of regime change there. :eyes:

well, guess they'll be happy now that haiti is controled by murderous thugs, led by a man who claims pinochet as a role model, who released violent criminal from the jails and now will procede to slaughter their politcal opponents. :puke:

3. Slash and burn.
It's the American way, ESPECIALLY when it affects those they consider "non-white." That stated, I have great hope in this moment. Haiti is a nation of "the least of us." And ahhhh yes, SO MANY pulled into the theatre parking lots to drink deep of a fictionalized account of the violence perpetrated against their Lord. There may be a "window of opportunity" that rather than swallowing the propaganda hook, line and sinker, they realize the REAL TRUTH of the Christ's words. One can only hope. This is SO BLATANT.

13. I am beside you,
dreaming right along. There can be outrage in the public - it wasn't loud enough and the event was so swift that no action came to stop the horrific events in Rawanda - but the public woke from its sleep and was aware and horrified. This situation does have media attention, if it escalates into a bloodbath (which it appears to be doing) it is possible (maybe not likely, but possible) that at least part of the public will be watching and starting to make noise - especially given our direct role in the awful drama. Again... we can dream... and we can keep hoping (and acting...)

5. Whodathunkit
Oh my Goddess.

Who could have seen this coming? It's hard to believe that a select coterie of exiled death squad leaders would use - gasp - violence to advance their noble political agenda to - cough - 'liberate' the Haitian people.

Now where have I seen/heard this before...and before...and before...and before...

O

8. Here's what we are being asked to do to help....
http://www.haitiaction.net/News/hac3_1_4.html

Call your local Congressperson. Call the White House. Call Secretary of State Collin Powell and the Haiti Desk at the State Department. Ask that the U.S. withdraw all support for these opposition thugs and secure the safe return of the Constitutionally elected Haitian President and Mrs. Aristide to Haiti.

11. SOPUDEP and other democratic populist organizations are the real target!
This happened last time! Aristide is removed, the death squads go on a murder spree, breaking up all the populist, democratic groups.

This is called Class War.

14. Many of the people I work with
are Haitians. They are all worried sick and many have still been unable to contact family members. One of my friends said there is much violence in the capital. His family is safe for now, but they are afraid to leave their house and they are afraid of running out of food. He said they've killed 25 or 30 people in the area where his family lives. He was able to get a hold of them yesterday, but today, there has been no contact.

It sounds from the people that I've talked to that it's much, much worse than is being reported. Pisses me off when CNN shows all the happy people marching, but don't show all the deaths. Oh, no, wouldn't want it to look like the people in Haiti actually LIKED their president. Or that the THUGS we are supporting are actually leaders of death squads. We can ignore that Aristide is the first ELECTED president they've had in a while, too. I am so sick of this. Bush has caused so much suffering and so much pain. Definitely time to put in a call to Wexler, Graham and Nelson!!

(I have NO way of verifying this, guys, so don't take it as gospel truth. It is just what the people I work with are saying, which could be exaggerated.)
