DU Super Tuesday voters. How's voting in your area?
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 12:50 PM by Norbert
In my area (in Southwest Ohio) I arrived a minute after the polls opened. I can't believe how crowded the place was. It was the biggest turnout I saw in a non-presidential election ever.

I must confess one of the reasons for the heavy turnout is our school district placed a 12 mil operating levy on the ballot. This will end up costing property owners with a $100k house around $350.00 a year. Many people in my area are worried this may pass.

Aside from that I think the turnout thus far bodes well for the democrats, and I don't think my county hasn't voted for a democratic president since the 19th century, not even FDR.

How about your area?

1. A little disappointing
I was voter #7 a my polling place at 11:00am! I usually try to be the first to vote, but had to train folks on second shift last night, so slept in this morning.

Overwhelmingly Democratic district (17,000 R vs. 200,000+ D)

2. I arrived at the polls around 8:30 a.m.
Believe it or not, I saw more volunteers than voters! I don't know whether it was that I missed the rush, turnout is low, or everybody's procrastinating. I don't recall it being that quiet in previous years, but the memory could be playing tricks.

3. Everyone is figuring out we have to get these crooks out of there.
No money, no job, no benefits of any kind, people are going to vote against bush. There will be record turnouts.

5. Voting's quite brisk in our neighborhood in L.A.
I went in about 8 this morning. Had to wait for the Dem booths to open up. They were both occupied! Nobody in there at that moment voting republi-CON. My husband went over there a little while ago. He's still not back yet. Must be waiting in line. Ordinarily, you go, you vote, and you're outta there straight away. Today, there seems to be much more traffic.

We have the ink blot test here in CA. I forgot that. I was playing with the little pointer puncher thingie and got a black ink mark on my finger. D'OH!

By the way, the lady who owns the house where the precinct is hosted may not realize this, but she has an anti-bush slogan hanging near its front door. There's this big wooden figure next to the door and on it is hanging a little sign that says "All Hat, No Cattle." I'm not sure she knows the full meaning of that...

And I'm not gonna tell her...

6. Dead.
Someone was walking out as I arrived and someone came in as I left. It's always busier in the morning and after work. They are expecting very low turnout, which may hurt our chances with Props. 56-58.

7. Around 9:15am in Brooklyn this morning
it was pretty darned slow. There were only three or four other voters in there besides me.

In the 2000 general election the line stretched way outside and it took about half an hour for me to get in to cast my vote. I have a feeling it's going to be at least that crowded if not more when November rolls around.

on Labor Day.

I've always been registered Independent.

Didn't realize until long after I voted this morning that I could have voted in whichever primary, Dem or Rep.

Anyway, I got an issues ballot (because I am a huge user of Libraries, I voted for the libraries levy), and they said that I could use any booth.

In my "district" area, there were 5 booths. I was the # 2 in the Issues only category. I looked at the booths. Sickened to see 2 Dem and 3 Rep booths.

Just to eff with their minds, I went into the Republican booth to cast my ballot.

I will support the Dem candidates in the November Election, no doubt.

Afterward, I found this (check out the bottom of the graphic).

So, that's how it works.

Edited to add forgotten part of story.

As I was leaving, I heard a longtime voter come in. One staffer said about the voter "I know him, he gets a Democratic ticket." Made me feel good that the Dems are going to be represented. If this wasn't sarcasm.

14. Summit County voter here, why is Brian Williams on there?
He's term-limited. That's odd. And he's a Republican. Someone running with the same name?

17. BrIan G. Williams is a Dem
Bryan Williams is currently trying to hog two jobs. Rewrite the rules because he's a repuke.

Yes, there is a guy with a similar name. "Pretty Boy" Bryan Williams is the Repub, working class "guy next door" looking Brian G. Williams is a Dem.

10. Florida primary isn't until next week.
There will be nothing on the ballot for me other than the presidential primary. I don't even really care to vote, because there is no chance that my choice will win. The main reason I'm even going is to check out whether there are any voting problems. I'll be 100% certain to vote in November, though.

I think CGrant57 and I are the only Democrats in Putnam County. And to think--they opened the polls just for us!

12. only a fraction of the people voting that I remember in the 2000 primary!
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 02:49 PM by flaminbats
Most of them were older people, the two others whom I noticed were asked rudely three or four times if they wanted to vote in the Republican primary. They responded..as I did, three or four times, that they would vote in the Democratic Primary..

Had it not been for the Pachyderm Inquisition, I wouldn't of known! :evilfrown:

13. NE Ohio, at 1 o'clock
My small precinct near downtown Akron had almost 200 Dems show up. I asked the lady and she said that was pretty good for a primary that has already been decided.

I was #189.

15. Different booths?
I've never voted where they had different booths for different parties. That's weird and kind of invalidates the whole secret ballot idea. Do you guys like it that way? Why is it that way? I don't get it.

16. Very quiet
When I went at about 2:30. I think there will be more people there later in the day. Of course, this being Mass, many people may have conceded the state to Kerry.
