1. $2.29 per gallon! For Regular? Self-serve?
I though our prices here in Westchester County, NY were high -- hovering around $1.90-$1.95/gal for regular self-serve.

My brother lives in Kailua, haven't talked to him for a month or so but.. he said the same thing about prices going up before Chimp's invasion and then never going back down.

Ahh,life in paradise! I haven't been back to Kauai since 1985,I'd love to get back some day, very very beautiful, much better than Maui.

34. $1.60, give or take a nickel or so..
depending on exactly where you are around here and which company.

Rather than just thanking Shrub and the oil companies for the price rise, you might want to thank the Chinese who are rapidly increasing their demand.

You might also give special thanks to everyone to everyone who owns a big pickup or SUV for general transportation.

Typical large trucks give less than 20mpg overall in the real world, some way less, and if just half the people with them tossed them for something with better mileage, we might not have to import oil at all.

It's good ol' microeconomics, folks. Demand outpacing supply. Amazingly enough, the free market can actually cause prices to rise!

Yell at Shrub all you want-- he deserves it, but don't forget to yell at your neighbor with the Hummer, or at yourself.

(Just picked up a used Saturn LS myself, and on a trip to Springfield, MA, got 36.5mpg. And it's a plenty big enough car for a family.)

last time I checked (about a week ago).

First, I've been saying this for years: we're spoiled. Look at what Europe pays for its gas. Waaaaahh...

Next - and I hate to say this - but if $4/gallon gas is what it takes to give the Chimp the boot in November, I say cha-ching! It'd be very much worth it.

up to $5 a gallon in Australia with a shisenhousen public transport system (none at all outside metro areas)
yet it's rarely a huge political issue (although was for a while when the prime miniature added a tax on a tax) because it still costs less than milk - which takes considerably less refining.

Edit: piss poor garbled sentance...shouldn't type on 1 hour of sleep

With the conversion from metric. And we ship a lot of our gas and oil to the US for a friggin' discount. It's cheaper there than in Alberta, where we produce it.

So, I can sympathize with the general sentiment, but...

50. This brings new meaning to "pay at the pump."
But I do see a good side to the rising prices.

Since cell phone minutes are getting cheaper, these higher gas prices may be the only way to save lives on the road. Although accidents may go up as more people talk on the cell phone, those accidents will be less deadly as people ditch their SUV's in favor of more lightweight vehicles that get higher MPG.

It is a delicate balance.

in Oak Lawn, IL and I paid $1.729 for regular. Mid-grade was $1.829 and premium was $1.929. I have no idea how much gas costs in the city, but I would say it's at least 5 cents per gallon higher. How much higher will it go?? That's the question.
