Fifth columns
I've noticed an increasing tendency of the far nutty right to be benefitting from what can only be described as fifth columns. These are being used to leverage control over the entire organization.

Opus Dei, secret right wing organization designed to take over the hierarchy of the Catholic Church.

Federalist Society, secret right wing organization designed to take over the American judiciary.

Green Party, not so secret organization of old Reds luring idealistic young liberals resulting in Republican pluralities in elections

Christian Coalition, hazy rabble of Robertson/Falwell followers taking over Republican party to establish theirs as national religious denomination

Democratic Leadership Conference, right wing Democrats attempt to take over party and attack liberal democrats.

Anybody care to list others? Or Comment

3. I was okay on the Opus Dei, since it has a most unsavoury record
But the Green Party? Pull the other one, it's got bells on.

6. The Green Party is the best example of what "fifth column" means
Appearing to support causes of progressives then leads them into action which results in a victory for the enemy. Classic fifth column.

11. Green Party
It'd be more fair to qualify the Greens as a response to the fifth column activities of the DLC and other psuedo Democrats.

4. Fifth columns
Explain the concept of fifth columns for the intellectually challenged (like me!).

But your premise seems good and the organizations listed fit together.

5. A fifth column
Edited on Sat Aug-02-03 05:00 PM by JackSwift
comes from the Spanish Civil War between the Fascists and Socialists in the 30s, where there were four columns marching on some town and somone quipped that there was a fifth column working on the inside of the city among the legislators. A fifth column of traitors. That's what someone means by fifth column. The point I'm making is that the righties are founding and encouraging small groups to organize within larger groups for the purpose of leveraging a right-wing takeover of that group, and an illegitimate one at that.

That is not to say that every sub-party or caucus is illegitimate. Caucus special interests happen all the time to promote certain personalities or one policy over another that still fits within the overall structure. The fifth columns I'm pointing to are founded in order to leverage a larger group for a power grab that is illegitate.

7. Opus Dei has two members on the Supreme Court
that we know about, yet, only has 70,000 members or so nationwide in the US.

You do the math.

10. And the former FBI directo (Freeh) and the FBI spy (Hanssen)
and Novak is suspected to be one as is Peggy Noonan.

Opus Dei, founded in Spain, grew largely because of the support of Franco. Other strong supporters in their countries were pinochet in Chile and Fujimori in Peru.

Opus Dei is only interested in converting(?) the ruling class/party. People form humbel backgrounds need not apply. The specifically want to get their people into positions of power to leverage those countries into legislation Opus Dei type beliefs and actions.

Pretty damn scary!!!! And I'm a former Catholic and I have a niece who is a full-fledged member of Opus Dei (for 8 years now). It's really a Catholic cult and is somewhat like Rev. Moon in the plan to infiltrate governments, the media, and other levers of control to implement their plan of domination on the world.

12. The Church came out against Opus Die
Edited on Sat Aug-02-03 10:40 PM by sandnsea
I could swear a few years ago the Church was strongly against Opus Dei. Then I vaguely remember reading recently that the Pope had said something or other good about them. What exactly is the status of Opus Dei in the Church right now, if you know? And if the Church is still against them, how does your sister justify her membership, if that's not too nosy?

edit: your niece, short term memory problems!

8. Just like Germany at the end of the Weimar Republic.
Many fringe organizations were willing to get behind the National Socialists(Nazis). The coalition boosted their numbers up to something they wouldn't have had standing alone. Of course once Hitler got into power, he found little use for them afterwards.

9. Yeh. The VRWC is a bugger.
One Cointelpro document I remember reading indicated that in the case of the Communist Party USA, more than two-thirds at some meetings were local and state police, FBI or US Government informers.

There is no reason to assume other groups today have been so infiltrated so completely, or completely as Harry Harrison's "X" sadly and conclusively discovered.

To your insightful analysis I'd like to add: The DLC is OURS. We can change it. And by "we" I mean Liberal Democrats. And we must do something to save the DLC by converting it to a more Liberal Democrat agenda.

One things for sure: we need to get fixed ASAP. Otherwise, they will keep infiltrating whatever it is we try.

The only reason they have not been more successful, is that the conservative toadies have limited resources to run on — a limited pool of criminal minds and the limited intellects of those who support them.

What of the Liberals? We draw on humanity, and the people that believe all men are created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights. And we believe the human spirit, mind and will are indomitable.

13. I agree, the DLC is OURS
Especially after watching Richardson speak at the convention. I mean that wasn't exactly an audience of powerhouses. There's plenty of time for us to move within the DLC and pressure them to listen to the 'elite activists'. Not that I'm much of an activist but...
