Poll question: Worst 20th Century President Elected in a Landslide?
For the sake of this poll, "landslide" is defined as a victory margin of 15% or more. The names are listed in chronological order as follows:

Candidate Name (Election Year, Margin of Victory)

1. It's a tough choice
Between the paranoid criminal (Nixon) and the drooling buffoon (Reagan), but I'll say the buffoon by a nose.

7. My vote also.
I still have a visceral reaction towards Nixon, whereas it's really hard to "hate" Reagan. But Nixon operated within the framework of the New Deal, and wasn't rabidly hostile to many of our beliefs. But Reagan was the one whose administration ushered in what we're up to our necks in today.

5. Ronald Freakin' Reagan
For all his faults, Nixon still wasn't as bad as that bozo.

8. Nixon leaves a bad taste...
...but the EPA started under him, and the Clean Water Act...and didn't the Endangered Species Act too? Hell, Nixon is arguably the most environmentally responsible president we have had...

Reagan, however, *earned* my vote in this particular poll.

11. Reagan
The mythology surrounding the man by his worshippers is appalling.

14. Me either! I was only a young
kid when Nixon was in office, so I have no direct memory of him. But Reagan!! UGH!! I never got it, never will. Personally, I always though his stint as "President" was more of a "Weekend at Bernie's" kind of thing. He looked like he had been embalmed or something - creepy!

By any objective measure he was.

16. What if the neocon movement completely destroys the country.
Reagan has been a big part of it.

18. Reagan vs. Harding
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 11:36 PM by Art_from_Ark
Both were "grandfatherly" lunkheads who were manipulated by the most vile and corrupt of puppeteers. However, the most notorious scandal of the Harding administration, Teapot Dome, pales in comparison with Reagan's Iran-Contra. Harding only had 2 1/2 years to do his damage; Reagan had eight. Reagan pitted American against American in a culture war, while Harding seems to have stayed out of the culture fray. And while all the corruption swirling around Reagan did not seem to affect him in the least, it is said that the scandals in Harding's administration weighed so heavily on his conscious that they led to his early demise.

Reagan was FAR worse than Harding.
