number of gays requesting to be married. There is no doubt in my mind that well around 25% of the US population is "gay." And if you check the arts and sciences their numbers and contributions to the high standard of living in the US is far greater than 25%. America needs to wake up and stop living in a fantasy land that neither the founding fathers or mothers intended. It was made up as they went. In the beginning blacks were not considered to be human and than only counted as 2/3 of a person. Voting was reserved for wealthy whites (not even poor whites who were mostly enduntured servants) were allowed to vote. Only the property owners and certainly not women were allowed to vote. The "American dream" of owning a home and living comfortably with assests to take care of you and your family for generations was intended only for the privileged few (sorta like the Bushs right now). Americans have come to romantacize and idealize American values...and that's ok when it really manifests in reality. However, let's not think more highly of ourselves than we ought. The Bush cabal represents most closely the values of most privileged and powerful Americans. They would like the rest of us to go away!

I've been married for the big 25 and I want that for everyone. Two women were interviewed today on the news. They've been together for 29 years. One of them said that marriage makes them feel validated. It brought tears to my eyes. This whole thing is so simple, so pure and is only about love and commitment. Yet, bigotry is getting the nod from our president because he's desperate for the votes.

12. What really helps

is when fundies find out that people they thought were "normal" are gay. I come from a Republican family. When my partner and I adopted our sons, we threw a party and invited the Repugs, too. Only one man-wife team didn't show up. The wife later saw me and expressed sorrow that she didn't attend our celebration.

If more people take the plunge out of the closet, it will be better for everyone. As someone who stayed in the closet for 5 years in the 1980's, I know how excruciatingly difficult this can be. And I also believe it is easier for young gay women than for young gay men. Females don't get as much hatred and harrassment directed towards them. I think young gay men are the bravest in the world.

It was made up as they went. In the beginning blacks were not considered to be human and than only counted as 2/3 of a person.

They counted as 3/5 of a person (hence, the 3/5 Compromise).

Most sociologists put it between 1%-10% - although my favorite study by several historians and anthropologists at Warwick University in England places the number at 4%. The looked at societies across all times and places where records were kept and found that in societies where homosexuality was encouraged (ancient greece eg) and all the way to societies where it was punishable by death the numbers seem to be about the same - 4%. Good arguement for biological rather than self selection.

Among smaller primates the number is much higher but great apes tend to be about 4% depending on population size. then there are Bonobos who dont give a shit who they screw - male, female, conveniently sized mango - its all good. So which species is more evolved?
