Poll question: If you saw this plate on a car...
If you saw this license plate, what would your initial conclusion be about its message?

Edit: I didn't see the "respect life" at the bottom. So now I think, hugs and kisses and anti-abortion.

16. Same here...
I also thought it meant "This car is being driven by a teenage girl, probably too young to have her license."

;-)

5. "Respect Life" is up there with "Culture of Life" as
a code term for overturn Roe v. Wade. Therefore, my initial response is as such, but it could be any number of things.

11. Your plates are 3 numbers followed by letters. Was I the only
one who knew that's what the 000s and XXXs mean?

And yes, it's code for overturning Roe v Wade.

When will this silly RW state license plate fad finally go away? Florida tried it and lost, didn't they?

17. what's the code then?
if the plate had been YYX-YXX. "x" and "y" are primary characters in the fetus debate, so even "XXX-YYY - respect life" might have been too obvious for me to miss ;-) .

what do the x's and o's mean in code?

18. I didn't mean to imply the code was in the numbers & letters
The coded meaning of the phrase "respect lfe" is the only code that's in that plate/logo configuration.

I wans't very clear about what I meant was code, was I?

22. If You Think The Driver Is Anti-Abortion,
then would a plate that said "Don't Respect Life" mean that the driver was pro-choice?

Do pro-choice people really and truly not respect life????

What a damning indictment that is.

25. I hope you were going to provide these people with the truth, Robb.
...at least eventually. Anybody that said anti-abortion is wrong, but it is an easy mistake to make. The plate (called the Columbine plate) is to pay tribute to the Columbine HS tragedy. Here's a story of the plate.

http://co.grand.co.us/MV/TheColumbinePlateofThemonth.htm

Now, it's true, that there are a lot of anti-abortioners driving around with Jesus Fish who have these plates too, but it's not the DMV's fault.

27. So are there people in favor of gun violence in schools?
I've seen "respect life" plates in other states and I've never doubted that they are pandering to the anti-abortion rights crowd.

30. Maybe in other states, but in this case...
it's about the Columbine Tragedy. The respect life may be a feel good, meaningless slogan, but they chose it because of the callousness that people have towards one another.

31. Actually, yes.
I live in Colorado, and I looked the plate up awhile back wondering what the heck it was on about... I assumed the abortion issue.

My point is borne out in the poll here, as well as people I've spoken to. I've discovered that churches suggest getting the plate as a way to express your opinion on abortion.

It's an interesting co-opt, IMO. Missouri, Tennessee and several other states have introduced legislation to create similar "Respect Life" plates that have nothing to do with Columbine, with proceeds going to "Alternatives to Abortion Funds" and similar.

Don Lee (R) from Littleton was one of the chief architects of the "Columbine Plate"... you shouldn't have to guess how he votes.

32. I Was Getting Gas at a 7-11 in Pueblo, CO One Night
I finished pumping my gas and headed in to pay for it. Two young girls in a Cougar with those plates on it almost ran me over. I walked over to their car once they stopped and said to the driver "It's obvious you only care about life BEFORE it's born - you don't give a damn about people otherwise."

She started her car back up and drove away.......
