Tonight on CBS 60 Minutes ll ....
they did a tribute to 3 of the American soldiers killed in Iraq. It was a very well done piece and really hit home for me. The 3rd soldier they profiled was Capt Pierre E Piche, the fifth Vermont soldier to lose his life in this insane war. He was only 29....and he was my Godson. It was my duty to keep him safe and this administration prevented me from doing that and I will NEVER, ever forget that!!!

Vermont is such a little state and it has lost five young lives to this miserable war.

4. How very sad.
I am at a loss to comfort you. So many of our youth strangled forever. What the * administration has cost us will be felt for decades. They are unconscionable twits and let's hope and work for their end.

6. Saddened by the loss of so many
I can't extend enough sympathy to you and yours. What an incredible tragedy. My wife and I were both in tears watching the tribute. Beautifully done. It hurts to see such good people being put into such an impossible situation.

7. I am sad you have lost a loved one.
I'm sad for myself, for yet another brave American is lost for our nation's future.

All wars are misguided in some sense, I certainly commend Captain
Pierre Piche for his dedication to what we want our country to be.

May all the family and friends find solace.

8. I don't want to sound crass
but if you wanted to keep him safe, why would you not stop at anything to keep him out of the military.
Members of the military are never "safe".

11. Please, pardon me for jumping in here.
I do find that crass.

There is a word game being played with the word safe. An insistance that keeping someone safe requires a near absolute sense of safe, when there is no absolute sense of safe. For example, where is a safe place? A car? Certainly not. A house? What if a plane falls on it? Rare yes, but in an absolute sense, safe does not exist.

I strive to keep my car and house safe. This does not mean that my car and house will be safe.

For this Bush war, the way to keep our countrymen safe is to depose Bush as soon as possible.

12. Semantics
If it's your goal, to keep someone safe......let them ride in your car, sit in your house, but don't let them enlist in the military.
That's my opinion.

9. mp3 & vp3 here for those who missed it
3 M mp3

42 M vp3 video which opens with QuickTime Player. Pardon the odd crop cutting off the bottom a bit. I forgot to reset the settings from another project I'd been working on. I'll upload a better version tomorrow at the same URL which will be just a tad larger file size.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, as well as all the others unnecessarily killed and wounded in *'s war in Iraq.

14. Wonk...thank you so much.....
for your effort in capturing this video. I was unable to record it as it came as a surprise to me and I was not prepared. I have now saved it on my PC and can't thank you enough.

I don't know how I would ever get through the day without access to DU and all the awesome people who share their knowledge and expertise with others on this board. It sure helps those in need and has become a huge part of my daily life. Thanks to all of you.

10. You can be sure
that Bush or Cheney won't show up for any funeral or memorial service. They haven't been to the first KIA funeral yet. Fund raisers are a different story. Sometimes they make two or three of them in one day.

And I too offer my regrets at the loss of a young and valuable life.

13. Let us all keep each other safe and keep working for peace and justice.
We're with you, roninvt.
We're your big extended family here.

Try to remember that we can keep moving towards justice so that the lives lost in this war will indeed make this world a better place for those of us still here and not just sadder for their loss.

Something big is going to come of all this.
I can feel it. Change is finally coming. And your godson helped to bring it to pass. That's really a hero's legacy, not rhetoric.

15. I am sorry....
you are going through this. I have a friend who is now crippled in Walter Reed....many people forget this but in addition to losing 560 of our loved ones because of this illegal war, there are thousands of soldiers with life changing injuries who are now being forgotten by the very same people who put them in harms way!
