I just had a meeting with a former Repub
This guy is president of a local school board and a former Republican party insider at the county level. He's also a constitutional secularist. You can probably understand why he left the party!

He says that welfare pushed him to the right, but thinks the reforms have been sufficient, and therefore, he's a Dem now. How you go from a Repub insider to touting FORTUNATE SON (the anti-Bush expose') in just five years shocks me.

The reason I was meeting with him: Some kids at a local school staged a walk-out in support of their teachers about a week ago, and I issued a statement in support of them. He thought I was getting involved in the negotiations, when in reality, I was simply advocating increased federal funding for teacher salary, and universal health care. This teacher-contract issue is highly contentious here!

Regardless, the point of this post is to indicate that slowly but surely, the right-wing of the Republican party is alienating the "small government" crowd. This guy is no libertarian-- he seems in favor of more funding for schools and universal healthcare-- but he was a Repub chased out by the religious right.

5. Did you notice that too?
My brother thinks himself an ultraconservative. He hates paying taxes. And he works for the state. Go figger.

4. here's how the Religious Right took over the GOP
take a look at this website:

http://www.TheocracyWatch.org/

It documents in detail how the Religious Right took over the GOP and is now using it to accomplish its extremist vision.

Know why we don't hear about the Christian Coalition anymore? Because they don't need the CC anymore. They have the GOP. And thus the White House, the Congress, and too much of the courts...
