9/11 Is Nothing Bush Should Be Proud Of
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 09:32 PM by Beetwasher
At BEST it was a collossal intel failure that happened on his watch after he was warned about it. Yet he's shamelessly exploiting it in TV commercials, after he promised not to.

If he's going to shamelessly exploit images of the WTC disaster, then the following question is open game and I hope Kerry asks it:

Mr. Bush, why are you shamelessly exploiting 9/11 for political gain after you promised not to. Also Mr. Bush, why are you proud of what amounts to a collossal failure of your admin. to protect the American people?

1. That's why he makes me sick
And I mean that literally. So does his daddy, and every member of his cabinet.

4. Why did you just sit there in a room full of kids...
... for several minutes after being told that America had been attacked with hijacked airplanes? Why did you bunny hop around the country leaving us all to wonder if a nuclear attack was imminent while Cheney ran the show from the White House? Why did you cry in the Oval Office on national television when the people needed someone to show strength? Why did Rudy Giuliani have to be the grown up man for two or three days when we supposedly had a president to be that?

...

5. Whether bush "promised" to not exploit 9/11 in his campaign
is irrelevant and not worth bringing up. The bigger question is will exploiting 9/11 and its images help or hurt the chimp. My guess is nothing can help him, so it's probably going to hurt him.

6. Many would disagree that's what it was
"It was a collasal intel failure"

How do you know that's what it was?

9. Doesn't Matter Really
I wouldn't expect Kerry to go that far and it's not even necessary.

Don't get me wrong, it DOES matter what really happened, but for the purposes of addressing those disgusting commercials and for Kerry's purposes at the moment it's enough, at least for Kerry, to give the Chimp that benefit of the doubt; that it wasn't something MORE sinister than a collossal intel failure...

7. But it wasn't really his fault!
Haven't you been paying attention? IT'S CLINTON'S FAULT! :)

Intended sarcasm but they think they can get away with this kind of BS by blaming Clinton! It is the bu$h mantra "It wasn't my fault".

8. There should not be an election
felons cannot run for office. This society is cooked. If 50% of Americans approve of ChimpCo., we can kiss our flaps adieu.

15. This statement from the Firefighters is powerful stuff.
Fire Fighters President Says Use of Fire Fighter Images in New Bush Ads Smack of Political Opportunism

snip>

-- As Bush Trades on Heroism of Fire Fighters, His Homeland Security Funding Cuts Hurt Fire Fighters and Communities --

"I'm disappointed but not surprised that the President would try to trade on the heroism of those fire fighters in the September 11 attacks. The use of 9/11 images are hypocrisy at its worst. Here's a President that initially opposed the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and now uses its first anniversary as cause to promote his re-election. Here is a President that proposed two budgets with no funding for FIRE Act grants and still plays on the image of America's bravest. His advertisements are disgraceful.

"Bush is calling on the biggest disaster in our country's history, and indeed in the history of the fire service, to win sympathy for his campaign. Since the attacks, Bush has been using images of himself putting his arm around a retired FDNY fire fighter on the pile of rubble at ground zero. But for two and a half years he has basically shortchanged fire fighters and the safety of our homeland by not providing fire fighters the resources needed to do the job that America deserves.

snip>

"We're going to be aggressive and vocal in our efforts to ensure that the citizens of this country know about Bush's poor record on protecting their safety and providing for the needs of the people who are supposed to respond in an emergency."

Thanks for posting this Beetwasher.

16. That's the way to counter Bush ads
I am thinking that for every ad Bush releases, we DUers should quote them verbatim but change the pictures.

Yes, when Bush depicts himself standing in the rubble, the hero of 9/11, we need to remind America who the real heroes were that day. I'd run photos of dead firefighters and police officers, dead office workers, airline passengers. Keep Bush's soundtrack as is. Just change the picture. The truth will set us free.

Truth is a virus. And Bush is a sick man.

12. you took the post right out of my mouth!
I was thinking the exact same thing and going to post on it.

Why in the hell would Bush EVER be PROUD of 9/11?

It's stupid, it's disgusting, and it's disgraceful.

Mainly it's stupid: "Look at my tragic failure!"

14. If 9/11 happened on Clinton's watch
The Republicans would have thrown him out of office and lynched him...its bad enough that he gets the blame for it and he wasn't even in power at the time...jeesh!

17. Oklahoma City bombing did happen
but did you ever see Clinton or Gore shamelessly exploit it for their re-election campaign?

What were they doing? They went on a whistle-stop cross-country train ride. They actually met the public, pressed real live voter flesh. And never once did I hear Clinton invoke the memory of the dead to try and further his career.
