Experts Say New Desktop Fusion Claims Seem More Credible
will this solve our energy problems?

Scientists are again claiming they have made a Sun in a jar, offering perhaps a revolutionary energy source, and this time even some skeptics find the evidence intriguing enough to call for a closer look.

Using ultrasonic vibrations to shake a jar of liquid solvent the size of a large drink cup, the scientists say, they squeezed tiny gas bubbles in the liquid so quickly and violently that temperatures reached millions of degrees and some of the hydrogen atoms in the solvent molecules fused, producing a flash of light and energy.

"It can do some interesting science stuff as is," said Dr. Richard T. Lahey, a professor of engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an author of a paper describing the findings that will appear in the journal Physical Review E.

"Our interests are to see if we can't scale it up to something more exciting," he said....

3. It looks pretty good
but I can't tell from what I've read if this could lead to a practical energy source (if more energy comes out than goes in). But it does look solid this time, Physical Review E is a highly credible journal. Here's the actual press release: http://www.rpi.edu/web/News/press_releases/2004/lahey.htm

4. Those energy problems in an ocean
I was down at the beach today, watching the foam of the surf pounding
the rocks and forming little bubbles. All the rocks on the beach,
even large ones are egg shaped from the relentless energy power of
the ocean pounding. Clearly any efficiency at harnessing this eternal power supply would be most rewarding.

Given this daily creation of trillions of little bubbles in ocean
foam all over the world, powered by megatonnes of wave force... that
this raw power is nothing next to some bubbles in a
beaker. WOW!
