Not all of country music is repug, or, the times, they are a changin'
http://www.musicrowdemocrats.com/missionStmnt.htm

The MUSIC ROW DEMOCRATS organization was formed in December 2003 by a group of Nashville music industry leaders who were fed up with feeling as if they had to apologize for being Democrats, particularly when they knew that Republican policies were negatively affecting the lives of the working class people who make up much of the audience for their music. Since that initial meeting, the group has grown to include more than 350 members who are working to create an effective vehicle for the Democratic voice

Mission Statement

1) To recruit and organize Democrats from the Music Community in order to create a data base and disseminate information about all matters relating to the Democratic Party.

2) To promote the image of Democrats in the following ways:

A) To counter the disinformation directed toward Democratic ideals and to vigorously challenge the demonization of Democratic ideals and individuals that support them.
B) To dispel the notion that the country music community is predominately Republican.
C) To defend the First Amendment rights of those in our community.

3) To endorse and support Democratic candidates for election in local, state and national elections.

4) To create a vehicle for the membership to collectively create,
endorse and convey specific unifying policy initiatives to the National
Democratic Party, and to refrain from debating issues that divide our
membership.

5) To focus the unique and powerful resources of our community to
further the cause of Democracy.

1. "...a group of Nashville music industry leaders"? >
You'd think there would be signatories, no? I can't find name one.

3. Didn't Toby Keith sign up? He got a bonus for signing the DixChicks, too.
Bush* has become Nashville's new banjo.

Meaning that TNN ran away from country music's roots to go all new and improved for marketing purposes. No more Hee-Haw because now they're Shania Twain.

Bush* is gonna go the way of the banjo in blue-collar marketing.

2. Yes, I would like to know who the organizers
of this group are as well. I kind of like country music, but I don't like having to lean so far right to listen to it.

4. It doesn't take a statement from some heretofore unknown group to tell me
that all country music artists aren't knee jerk Republicans. Many not only aren't but proclaim their liberal beliefs with much more courage than other celebrities.
I could start a list but I'd be sure to leave many out.

6. Rodney Crowell was onstage with Kerry in Tenn.
I think there was a Cash or two with him - he was married to Roseanne Cash for a long time. Roseanne is a BIG lib.

Garth Brooks is a liberal, and I believe Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are, too. Merle Haggard is DEFINITELY.
