Why Gray Davis = George W. Bush *
People perceived that Gray Davis was part of the problem and not part of the solution. His credibility completely eroded. The electorate voted against the status quo, as they saw it as a slippery slope into an abyss.

I think that the same sentiment that worked against Gray Davis will work against Bush. What has to freak out Rove is that Bush's credibility is going the same way as Gray Davis'.

Finally, I think that a lot of fiscally conservative/socially progressive Republicans are in play big time for the General Election. With Gray Davis, a lot of moderate Democrats jumped ship because of the state's horrible budget problem.

The similarities are really striking: eroding credibility, perceived as being part of the institution and beholden to special interests, and losing the centrist elements of your own party, and a horrible budget situation.

2. False Analogy
I'm no fan of Gray, but I can't buy the analogy. Bush hasn't slapped a big tax on cars.

It's California, man. Your car is your RELIGION!

4. Yes, but . . .
My point was Gray picked a SACRED COW and shat upon it.

Bush is pandering to the upper classes. Gray pandered to upper middle class yuppie Dem's in West LA, and didn't even do it successfully.

You're not defending Gray, are you? If so, how?!

7. NOW You've Got a Story - Oil Company Scum
Speaking of sacred cows:

Gas prices in SoCal are up 40 cents in three weeks. Now it's $2.19 for a gallon of regular, $2.39 for premium.

The blog is that "all the refineries seem to have gone off line at the same time."

HOW DO YOU SPELL "ILLEGAL CONSPIRACY IN RESTRAINT OF TRADE?"

Or maybe, more trenchantly, "PRICE FIXING"?

I'm buying a hybrid next time.
