Bush's new campaign ads suck.
Edited on Thu Mar-04-04 06:36 AM by Liberal_Guerilla
I have seen two so far. They do more to show what an empty suit he is. It's a montage of empty promises. In fact, what promises can he make? Will he somehow fix the economy by admitting that his first four years of tax cuts is a massive failure? Nooo.

Will he admit to the failure in Iraq, the lies that got us there, and suggest a pull out of all troops? Nooo. What will Bush offer this country, safety? Noooo, we were just as safe before his administration, after all 9/11 did happen on his watch.

So what exactly is Bush saying in these supposedly uplifting and hopeful ads? Nothing really, unless you consider rhetoric to be something. As for me, you want to get my vote? Tell me how you're going to give me better opportunity for employment because as far as I can tell I was employed full time for six years of Clinton's administration and since Bush took over i have mainly been unemployed to under employed. from 65,000 a year to lucky if I can make 20,000 a year.

The cost of living has increased dramatically while my income has dropped dramatically. And yet, just like his aloof fathers administration which had me in the same predicament, Bush does not have a clue or seems to care about the effect that his policies have on people. You would have thunk that 12 years of a failed trickle down system would have been enough to get these people to come out with some other creative economic structure, but because they did not, it proves to me that they don't really care about the well being of this nation, just it's share holders, and share holders seem to like high unemployment and high productivity numbers.

Too bad that this system does nothing but rape the backbone of the country and discards the nations most precious resource(It's people)like so much trash and baggage.

I want a leader who will be a protectionist for American jobs! I want a leader who will stand up to corporate interests, who realizes that America and it's people do have something to offer the world. not the other way around. The American people and the natural resources are valuable and we need people who will stick up for us.

And if you don't like it, then feel free to peddle your junk else where, because we don't want it. This is leadership for me, Something that Bush will never understand. I hope that Kerry understands, and i am encouraged that he does by his "Benedict Arnold corporations" slogan that he has railed against. I just hope that he's serious.

These new ads that the media have been getting all sexxed up over is full of weakness and holes. I am broke, I don't feel safe, I don't have hope for the future with Bush in it. So what is it that he is selling here? It does appear that this emperor truly wears no clothes.

1. I was actually suprised out how shameless and dumb they were.

They dont really address any concerns that Americans have right now, they just pretend that they dont exist. It's really sad, actually.

I've been watching the fawning press reactions to the ads and I think the ads are just more of the same bullshit.

Wrap yourself in the flag, terror 24/7...same shit.

Dont people ever get tired of it?

2. What's with the pundits?
They got all giddy that they get to say Bush's new air campaign called "Shock and Awe". How sick are these ninnies? It is obvious that they have no objective bones in their bodies.

The ads do suck. They are the same old shit without addressing any issues that face the country.

3. Somebody ought to check them for subliminal messages
They look and feel like that type of ad. The overall feel of them is like -- "Go to sleep, Go to sleep, Go to sleep....."

6. Nice link Mo.
I guess that there is even more to be outraged about other than the fact that he does not address todays issues.

5. Shareholders and the stock market
The big push to make everyone invest part of their pay in stocks in designed to make them feel like they're part of the stock market. Unfortunately, the stock market is little more than glorified gambling mixed with insider trading. A lot of people are going to get to retirement age with nothing to retire on if Bush and the congressional republicans get their way.

And that's why we have to vote not just Bush out, but as much of the whole republican congress as possible.

9. I can't believe the madness.
If we do this(Social security in the market), this country is on it's way to becoming a third world nation filled with dead, sick and dying seniors in the streets. Can't wait until we become so desensitized that we can just walk over the bloated bodies on our way into work or the supermarket and not think anything about it.

Does this sound like the kind of world that you want to live in? Not to me.

16. I love that "Omen III" poster!
I looked at stills from the movie and it is so funny to see how Damien's evil expressions and smirks look so much like Bush's. Of course Sam Neill was acting and was also cute, while Bush is truly creepy and scary.

Also, to let you know, for some reason the poster is appearing kind of dark on my screen.

18. For some reason I can't get that dark shadow off the image.
Edited on Thu Mar-04-04 07:50 AM by sfg25
Chimpy really IS the Omen!

But really, I purposely cast that dark shadow over the eerie chimp devil.

Glad you like it, I have no doubt that this is what chimpy's autobio book cover would look like.

12. I particularly like these sentences. Go Maureen Dowd.
Mr. Bush's ad flashes a shot of firefighters removing some flag-draped remains of a victim from the wreckage at ground zero even as he prohibits the filming of flag-draped remains of soldiers coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Nothing like hypocrisy with high production values.

20. I am appalled at the ads
Edited on Thu Mar-04-04 03:05 PM by SuffragetteSal
using the flag draped victim. I remember so clearly after 911 and the fact it felt like we were 'leader-less'. I kept waiting to see Bush come out on the television with encouraging words for us, that everything was going to be okay and he would protect us etc. He did no such things, there were no words as a leader would find. He has proved to be no leader and I am disgusted and saddened by the fact he has made this country weak and ruined it's once fine reputation.

P.S. I am happy to make this my 1000th post on DU.

22. Great 1000th post Sal.
You are so right. He was no leader on 9/11. I would not have continued to sit there in that school reading a childrens book, meanwhile new York was being bombed. Is that leadership? And where was he for days afterwards? It was Clinton who was first down to ground zero, Clinton was down there amongst the crowd of people hugging them and consoling them. That was leadership.

Bush is a coward and a bully. He has been bullying us into doing as he says while picking at the wound of 9/11. he doesn't want us to heal, because when we do heal the wounds of 9/11, we will also have gotten over Bush.

Congratulations on your 1000th post. Woo-Hoo

13. Well...
if you can stand it go to georgebush.com and you can see the ads for themselves...I could hardly stomach them but had to to get a better perspective of what kind of garbage was going to be spewed by chimpy...

Images of WTC in the background with a flag waving on two of them mixed in with firefighters carrying a casket...so shallow to use 9/11 for political gain...

the other mentions jobs and education...and where he want's to take this country...blah blah blah...

I made it through all three without puking so...if you really want to see them you have to visit his site...

14. This is phony "feel good" propaganda.
I am "shocked" that they are shamelessly exploiting 9/11 and the wars. I am "awed" by their attempts at trying to re-write history.

How can anyone not be disgusted by this "don't worry — be happy" junk?

15. This is why KERRY needs our help!

Kerry really needs our support to throttle the cash-cow Bush!

If you can't donate money to Kerry's campaign because four years of Bush has left you penniless, get on the net and campaign. Use your voice---tell all your friends why John Kerry MUST be the nation's next president. We CANNOT let the ultimate "Ugly American" run the country for another four years! Don't be apathetic toward the world's future.

We must act quickly to respond these Bush distortions.

17. I am seeing these ads for the first time on CNN this AM...
nicey feel goody stuff, supported w/9-11 images meant to tug at heart strings. If there was not the factual disaster of the the actual administrative decision process, these might be good. But held up to what this administration has done over the past 3 years, they are empty vessels.

bush and Co are running scared, they better spend all of that money, because I don't think even 1/3 of his base is behind him. People look at $150 mil+ for a political campaign, and wonder why their unemployment insurance wasn't extended. People go hungry while bush gets $1000 a plate for beans and wieners, not a good picture.
