When Hannon, R-Ashland, resigned Jan. 31, he left his successor, Sal Esquivel of Medford, with little money for staff and supplies until the next legislative session begins in January.

Legislators' spending on staff has attracted attention since outgoing House Majority Leader Tim Knopp, R-Bend, doled out raises and bonuses averaging $3,500 to a half-dozen staff members in December.
Hannon's office spending came to light in an analysis by The Oregonian in January that showed a broad ``use-it-or-lose it'' spending pattern by lawmakers between sessions.
