a very explicit image

I want you to check out this image

Look at the composition. The soldier seems to feel like he was carrying a bag of shit. His companions seems to enjoy it. They look like kids sharing a moment of playful entertainment, about the funny attitude of one of his pals. Its obvious from the attitude, that the bag is not a human, its just a bag full of crap.

This photo was taken during the latest protests in Caracas, Venezuela

Im eager to hear those very well informed DUers that still think that Venezuelan opposition is a 'powerful elite' of whiteys and the government is the 'avenger of the poor and powerless'

Im reallly eager to hear them shut the fuck off, because their silence will give a dull satisfaction to my current anger

3. I'm thinking it must be focused at Chavez
and maybe at anyone who opposes the repeated Bush Administration coup attempts against Venezuela. But I'm just guessing.

7. what a navel-centric conception of politics

so the world splits in what is pro-Bush and what is anti-Bush?

first comment: i thought that was the conception Bush wanted to implant. I guess he succeed.

second comment: so everything that happens in the world is about what happens in US? Isnt that what the PNAC profess?

11. The world isn't binary, if that's what you're asking
But the Bush Administration was behind both coup attempts in Venezuela, so it's not as though they're not pertinent to the situation.

Are you both anti-Bush and anti-Chavez? If that's the case, I'd guess you're a Venezuelan citizen. And if that's the case, where's your outrage in regards to a foreign power trying to overthrow your government?

I personally can't stand George W Bush, but wobetide any foreign power that tried to unseat him in a coup. That's OUR job as citizens. We are a sovereign nation. So is Venezuela.

So what gives, Chuck?

15. You still can riot against bush

and your odds to have to stop a bullet are very low

In venezuela right now, when you go to riot you have the uncertainty to go back home in a piece

your odds of, if by any chance you got shot in the middle of a riot, to have a fair tecnical police and legal investigation that would try by any legal means in hands of your state to prosecute those that shot you, are extremely high

last two nights, government proceeded from buildings near the riot locations to put snipers to shot at the rioters, which was caught by some amateur cameras that filmed them in the buildings. They killed 7 people last night, and shot a TV reporter in the foot.

So, believe me when i say this; even if its true that there were entities from other countries helping (financially, even military) the opposition, i would have them in the highest moral regard, even if that support comes from such a despicable government such as the Bush administration

enough said

Nobody has said that the U.S starts every riot in the world.. Were only talking about a couple of er..riots... And they're both in our backyard. Google Greg Palast and Venezuela and learn something...

9. Agree with you--
Chavez is no working class hero, he's only taken one form of oppression and replaced it with another. Typical despot.

19. Disagree--
My best friend's wife fled Venezuela after Chavez took over. You think Bush is a harsh SOB? Try this, but one tiny example of how a despot controls his subjects.

BOGOTA, Colombia -- Venezuela's secret police have arrested one opposition leader and are searching for another as President Hugo Chavez follows through with his pledge to punish those behind the financially crippling general strike that failed to oust him from office.

16. If This Photo is All You're Going On,
then I think you're delusional.

The solider is dragging a protester out of the street. He's not being injured. The other soliders are relaxed and smiling.

What's the background? Was this protester doing something that required him to be restrained? Do you know?

This picture is a lot less violent than many pictures I've seen from protests in the US or Europe. Here's a someone killed by police in Genoa in 2001:

http://www.repubblica.it/gallerie/online/politica/uccisione/6.html

I'm not justifying abuse. I just don't see the basis for your accusation. At all. Police should exercise control over demonstrations and do so with minimal violence. That's perfectly consistent with the picture you posted.

Yes, the "Venezuelan opposition IS a "powerful elite' of whiteys". Ruling elites always have supporters in the lower and middle classes. It's just that they're a distinct minority.

For a leader that was forcibly removed in a coup just a couple of years ago, and has been repeatedly targeted since then, Chavez is showing remarkable restraint.

i just hope less people would buy every crap propaganda they mindlessly eat in the internet and would strive *just a bit* to get more information about what happens there, or otherwise, keep judgements to yourself about what you dont care to first really know about
