Just heard on AM Radio news that Bush* is going to pull his 9-11 Ad
The country it appears is up in arms over it and finds it highly distasteful. Hope this is true, but it was reported as fact. Don't have a link as I just heard it a couple of minutes ago.

103. I like your avatar
I have a T-shirt with that and "DONT'T PANIC!"

On the ships, when I was called out in the middle of the night for some crisis in the Engine room, I used to wear that shirt. Nobody paniced. The lights still went out and the machinery stopped, but everyone was calm.

3. WOW! That was fast!!
I knew the shit would hit the fan, but to pull the ads within a day!!!

I also heard on one of the late-night news shows earlier this week that several of the 9/11 families who are upset at the White House stalling the 9/11 Commission are planning a demonstration at Ground Zero during the Reptilian Convention!!!! GOD, I hope they do!!!!!!
That could lead to a media implosion worse than what happened to Humphrey in '68!

I've been using the term reptile when talking about these people for years and years. I only started using the repuke term when I started posting here.
Reptile fits, these cretins use the small primal survival part of their brains and express disdain for anyone who thinks.

81. Is it possible this was a trial balloon to measure public reaction?
The sheer arrogance of the b*sh administration seems to show that they usually don't give a damn what anyone thinks. Could this have been a way to "test the public waters" for reaction to such ads?

I'm thinking about the whole "Hastert denies 911 Commission more time" situation that just occurred. I believe that was a total set-up to make b*sh look like the good cop - Hastert says "no more time!", media gets people pissed off, b*sh rides in on his white horse to save the day (note to self: :puke: ).

Normally, when the traitor-in-chief and his handlers make a potentially inflammatory decision, they keep it buried from the media. I think we got played with the Hastert thing, and I'm wondering if this was a test run of the "911 = b*sh = hero" meme the BFEE wants to exploit.

Anyone else feel that way? Or am I off my rocker?

12. nothing
He has NOTHING TO RUN ON.

Everything evokes negatives.

Economy, homeland safety, 9-11, Iraq, foreign policy, veterans issues, senior issues. All of them piss people off.

He'll have to run AGAINST something. (Culture wars?)

But the best news is that his campaign has a tin ear already. They already blew the first chance to shape the campaign.

18. Odd thing is it wasn't that big of a thing to run on anyway
NBC exit polls showed that only 9% of Dems (about the same nationally) say that it was the most important thing.....economy got 42%.

Well I guess that leaves the constitutional amendment to restrict rights a real "don't you have more important things to worry about?" head scratcher.

He said the ONLY one making any noise about the ad was one 9/11 widow--I guess to Rush she didn't count for anything.

He went on to say that most of the US was in total agreement with the ad except the whining Democrats. Oh yeah Rush??

I hope they make a few other mistakes totalling in the millions. Maybe next time they won't have the violin music sawing away.

Those ads are such a joke. I kind of wish they had run them for a bit. I heard someone from the Kerry campaign on the radio this morning (may just have been with the DNC, not specifically Kerry) saying there was no need for Kerry to run anything at all while these ridiculous ads were playing, because of the negative impression they were making.

<http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=544&e=1&u=/ap/20040304/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_political_ads>

snip>> WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites)'s day-old campaign commercials drew sharp criticism Thursday from relatives of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and a firefighters union with ties to Democratic rival John Kerry (news - web sites) demanded they be pulled from the air.

Looks like the firefighters are not going to allow these ads to continue, and they will condemn bush* until they pull the ads.

If true this will make them gunshy about using Iraq war images as well - though I think the carrier flyboy image might actually backfire on them so it would be good if they would try it also. "In Bal Harbour, Fla., the International Association of Fire Fighters Union approved a resolution asking the Bush campaign to pull the ads, spokesman Jeff Zack said. The resolution also urges Bush to "apologize to the families of firefighters killed on 9/11 for demeaning the memory of their loved ones in an attempt to curry support for his re-election." The union gave Kerry an early endorsement in the presidential race.

If he has to pull those adds, I hope our leaders turn up the heat on it!

Anytime they make a boneheaded mistake like that, grab them by the back of the neck and rub their faces in it! Be brutal, and don't back off.

And when they finally get up and try to run away, kick 'em in the A$$!!!

Anyone who would try to use the dead for political gain should be shown no mercy.

The victims of 911 and their families deserve better. And so do we!

They've had these ads prepared to air for months now. You don't spend the money they spent on these ads and not have researched the expected response from the opposition and all other angles and reached the conclusion that it won't hurt you. The ads will go on as scheduled.

61. I bet the will go ahead with it.
And I won't doubt that it'll play well to the American public. DU is fun, but it is an isolated world, not real, doesn't accurately reflect the views of the majority of Americans, is re-active rather than pro-active. In fact, if people here say it'll bomb, I'm more inclined to believe it won't. It's not the fault of the site per se, it just the process of everyone liking to hop on the same bandwagon just to feel good (like 'underpants' points out "You are probably right but let them have some fun for a while"), even if it's not going anywhere. I just appraoch things here with that in mind. I encourage you to do the same.

Best To You.

66. As I Said, We'll See
How'd the carrier stunt go over again?

How much of what we've said here on DU has been acknowledged as reality eventually? I remember the carrier stunt was panned and I personally predicted it would backfire. It did. Remember everything that was being said about Iraq on this site before the war? I'd say DU has a great track record.

You're not paying attention if you think otherwise.

I suggest you pay attention to reality instead of your deep seeded cynicism (or whatever it is). There's LOT'S of outrage over this ad from Firemen to 9/11 families.

70. It's not DU that's on the front page of every major daily
Rather, it's the story about the outrage being expressed by Bush running these ads. It's also the topic of several polls, and all of them are running strongly against the notion of using such advertising. I'm aware of the DU echo chamber effect, but this is NOT an instance of the effect. It's nationwide, and it's damaging to Bush.

He'll drop it.

And by the way, you give the administration WAY too much credit for knowing how the public will react. They're used to everyone falling in line when they say so. I think they've been horrified of late that the press doesn't jump when they say jump. They're losing control, and they were never geniuses in the first place, just bullies. They've worn out their welcome.

He went through with the arrogance of it all because he believes he can do anything he wants and does not have to account to anyone for it.

the picture on the web site cracks me up--look at her mouth.

She has so much pancake makeup on that she looks greasy. The makeup is sinking into her wrinkles.

84. LIHOP/MIHOP
refer to 11 September, they stand for LET IT HAPPEN ON PURPOSE and MADE IT HAPPEN ON PURPOSE.

As you can see there are two schools of thought on this, the first lihop is that bush* was so incompetent, so lazy that even though they were warned about terrorist plans from the Clinton administration, they let the information slide and let the towers be attacked on purpose. Why? There are different schools on that as well, knowing that Iraq would be invaded sometime after the theft, 11 sept. provided a perfect excuse to drag the country into war.
MIHOP, is just a little more tin foil, the idea being that they knew of the plans to attack the trade centers and purposely made it happen.
If the second were ever to be found as true, drawing and quartering would be too good for this bunch of misfits.
Welcome to DU.

Beyond that, I'm at something of a loss as to just what they'll air next.

Thank you George Bush.. Write to him and Thank him

for coming clean about 9/11..

I wrote this e-mail..

As a Democrat, I must say I was a bit startled when I saw one of the ads that President Bush has started running.. There are a lot of people out here who will be very glad to know that he has finally "claimed" the responsibility that he bears for the 9/11 calamity.. That MUST be the reason that he is using it in his ad. To be using it any other way would have to mean that he has set the tone of his campaign as .."It ain't my fault"..

Since he is the person who pushes personal responsibility as a personal mantra, I can only assume that he is finally taking responsibility for the 9/11 event, the disastrous economy, and the other problems that our country has endured during his 3 1/2 years as president..

I never thought he would own up to those things.. I commend you for taking such a bold move.. I guess admitting the truth late, is better than not admitting it at all..

Sincerely,
yadayadayada

I would love for this to be true - the Dems could both point out how distasteful the ads were AND how Bush flip-flopped by pulling them within a day.

However, I am also skeptical. I'll keep checking back to see if someone has a link.

BTW, the disgust of the 9/11 families at the ads is on the BBC news front page also.

101. The candidates HAVE TO use their own voices
That is why the "I'm George Bush..." line. It is part of the campaign finance reform law, to stop those vague "call some guy in Washington and tell him you hate the blah blah bill." This way, the candidates are forced to take responsibility for the lies in their ads.

Kerry will have to do the same thing when his ads start running.
