Of course, if you knew, then you would not be deceived. You would only be a willing participant in the deception. With the new technology and the advancement of the art of propaganda, it is easy to be deceived and not know it. No doubt, both political Parties practice the art of deception.
However, the Republicans - over the years - have perfected it to an artform because they could not win a race for dogcatcher if they told the truth to their supporters. And what is that truth?
The truth is that they are the Party of the "haves" and they have always fought for ways to deceive their supporters into thinking they are the Party that is fighting against those that would take away their freedoms and their right to work hard and become wealthy themselves. Over the years, this has worked very well for them. Even though everything they have ever supported legislatively has gone against the best interests of 95% of the American people. That is why you will never see them vote for meaningful health reform. They tell their supporters it is "socialistic" medicine and that is "bad". They don't say why it is "bad" but their supporters never ask for an explanation.
They have been successful over the years convincing their Repub brethren that capitalism is the cornerstone of our democracy and the right to be greedy and exploitive is as American as apple pie. It is inherent and hereditary in our national politics. Why else would Repubs continue to vote against their best interests if they were not deceived?
As for the Democrats attempts to deceive, I will leave that to others to explain how our Party tries to compete with the Republican masters...
