"American Dynasty" (PHILLIPS) Is Mind Boggling
Am about two-thirds through it. The panorama of influence, connections, and dot-connecting in the book is way beyond my grasping in detail, certainly beyond my being able to proselytize to others. How somebody so goofy as Poppy can be a Spook is something in itself. Hopefully, the chain could be broken since Shrub's daughters claim not to like politics, at least on the surface-----or DO they? And Jeb Crow Shrub's kid and the Billy BUSH kid seem hell bent on their own frivolity. But wow what a book.

12. thanks for that link!!
Yes, Phillips' book is great, and it's wonderful that he's a conservative with great bonafides for all who dismiss anyone who talks about the issues of the Bush family as liberals.

The nice thing is that the book fleshed out and refined, in some cases, things which I had already learned by spending time on DU.

7. Yep, & PHILLIPS Even Connects the Goofiness Dots
Edited on Thu Mar-04-04 11:19 PM by UTUSN
How Shrub and Poppy have managed to disguise the generational traits and the media collaborates by treating each of them separately instead of connected. Poppy's horseshoe victory call, Prescott's "cheerleading" introduction (in a raccoon coat) of EISENHOWER that had to be shouted down by even other Yalies.

And is Lauren REALLY a model?----or an international man of mystery.

15. The dumbness we see now can be traced to Sam Bush’s branch of the BFEE
Phillips seems to have traced the brain drain to the Bush side of the family, although I can’t remember him actually stating that in AD.

His accounts of George Herbert Walker seemed to indicate the man was fairly bright. Sam Bush (Samuel Prescott Bush) seemed to be a not too bright but hard working man. His contribution may have been what dumbed the whole crowd down.

8. I'm having to read it quickly
Once I got this book I realized it is one of those "drag out for awhile" reads since it has so much info to absorb. It reminds me of Blumenthal's The Clinton Wars as far as exhaustive documentation goes.

The bad/good news: I can't renew it at the library since it has a waiting list. So I gotta hustle. It took me over a month to get a copy, and the library owns 8 copies.

This is in Dallas, no less.

9. There was a quote by Poppy
I don't remember all of the details, like, where it was reported, but I'm sure someone else knows.

But he said, something along the lines of

'If the American people knew what we were doing, we would be chased down the streets and lynched'

Semantics aren't too much an issue on that. I mean, what he says is damning whether I got the quote wrong or not.

I never knew Poppy was a frat boy mentality myself. Then again, I am but a child.

13. Great book - I heard Mr. Phillips interviewed
on C-Span and he talked a little about Judge Silberman (appointed to new Intelligence Commission) and he then referred people to the book by Lawrence Walsh "Firewall." I got the book and I'm almost thru with it - so many things we have all forgoten -all of those old judges (& others) are right here, right now in this Administration. It really is a total disgrace. I really think (once again) that there is a government operating outside (& inside) our present government. Everybody absolutely denies everything - No me, ask him, no, I don't know about that - this all happened during Iran Contra and it all happening again.

14. Caught him on C-Span
He was so knowledgeable and forceful about this family. He positively loathes them. And, he made very quick work of repubs who called and attacked him.

16. Phillips has pointed out George HW ("read my lips") Bush
got to the presidency with only ONE biography having been written about him, and that was done by his own campaign.

Phillips was just astounded someone could rise to that level of leadership with no one taking a close look at his background. When GHWB ran for VP with Reagan the focus was on Ronnie. After that the one book came out from his own campaign. When he lost to Clinton there was no further interest in him.

Phillips continually hints, in the strongest language, for writers and reporters to INVESTIGATE and write!

17. The final chapter is the best
I found the first part intriguing, but the middle rather slow since I don't have a lot of interest in business dealings. The final third, and especially the last chapter, is incredible. May it augur the final chapter of the BFEE.

The Poppy quote you mention was captured by now-deceased journalist Sarah McClendon in her newsletter. "If the American people really knew what we had done, we would be chased down the streets and lynched."

20. The Bush Crime Family
Those who steal together stay together. I suspect that this book barely scratches the surface of the criminal activity of the Bush Dynasty.

21. Call Bob Brinker over the weekend; he said he was reading it.
On his radio show, Moneytalk. He's done a (perhaps) 180 on * and was raving about Suskind's book. Said he had just purchased American Dynasty.
