5 things Democrats should do to win the election (but mysteriously avoid)
5) Get rid of Terry Mcauliffe (no matter whom it pisses off)

4) Get Clinton to start making anti-Bush speeches (like Gore's been doing)

3) Galvanize the base into organized smear campaigns

(the way Republicans do; anti-Mel Gibson, anti-Fox News, etc.; deluges of letter that get people fired. Don't be afraid to use minions to make incendiary points like the congressman who compared Kerry to Hitler or the billboards showing Daschle and bin Laden together. Why can't we make billboards that say Cliff Baxter was murdered or that Paul Wellstone was murdered, or showing Bush as Hitler?)

2) SCREAM about black box voting and Diebold (connecting it to Florida etc.)

1) Reveal the actual reasons for the war! (even if it means talking LIHOP and oil)

1. but didn't Mcauliffe advance the AWOL reality

I agree we don't have enough surrogate "pundits" on the mass media airwaves.

Perhaps the campaign should directly address ALL the issues and get down and dirty on one front and deliver a positive message on the other front

3. But, W was not technically AWOL, GOOD 5
Calling W AWOL allowed Republicans wiggle room, technical deniability, although admittedly not as well as they handled previous scandals.

I don't know about Terry Mcauliffe, I do see a strange mix of missed opportunities.
