I was on tonights news and found out why the mainstream press ignores Bush

I was at the demonstration against Bush in Santa Clara today. Some guy from channel 5 (KPIX, S.F. Bay area) interviewed me for about 10 minutes. He flat out told me that, as we were speaking, hours before he even filed his report, Bush supporters were e-mailing the station to ask why the radical fringe (I guess that would be anyone who disagreed with the Nazi's) where being given any air time at all. The message was Clear, The Bush Machine is geared up to influence the media and the anti Bush movement is not! We need to start contacting the media and let them know that we want the Bush lies reported on! What makes this LBN? The reporter wandered around the protest for several hours. When it came time to air the report, there were only two people who made the cut and I was one of them! I had a sign that said "It's the Bush stupid!" Also, the guy told me that he is a DU er. Please call, write, e-mail KPIX channel 5 and all of the other outlets and express your approval of the anti-Bush reporting.

I used to work in radio and every time, and I mean EVERY time a letter came in (especially a letter, but we had request lines, too), it was paid attention to. Listener/viewer comments do matter, and if the same sorts come in droves, they matter even more.

SAME THING IS TRUE WITH NEWS/TALK/INFORMATION formats, AND TV. Big Nielsen numbers means the show stays on. Little numbers, or no numbers, means bye-bye.

A year ago the board was overwhelmed with the technical and financial burdens of coping with an exploding subscribership. I suspect he had way to much on his plate then.

Now things are different. And now, what you put together could be extremely valuable at exactly the right moment.

Many states do not have the National Guard to help out in the event of a natural disaster or massive civil unrest. Some states have a near 50% of their Guard in the mideast.

18. I've harped on this for ages

especially when I first came to DU. I kept asking why the lounge was so much more popular than "activism and events" on a political website. No answers. Dead thread.The left is GREAT at preaching to the choir and pointing out what's wrong, but horrible about taking action and demanding change. Older and wiser people than myself tell me this has always been true of Progressives. So how do we change it? I've suggested before that we start a weekly letter writing blitz campaign on two or three topics. A group leader would name the topics at the beginning of every week, and DUers would then submit their own letters on one or more of the topics to a local, regional, and National Media source.I really do think it would make a difference, and your experience tonight certainly reinforces that belief. When I've suggested this action before, I was pretty much ignored or told that letters don't really matter. Well, why don't we put that to the test? Hell, I would lead the weekly group if anyone would listen to me for a *&%# minute, but that doesn't seem to happen around here. So where's our Gandhi? Our MLK? Show yourself and let the left be heard!
