Do the Iraqi people like America??
I'm having an argument now with a freeper who says that the Iraqi people love us. I told him about all the fighting going on, the civil wars, etc. He wants proof they hate us. He says the only ones killing our soldiers are Saddam loyalists. Help. Thanks!

http://www.iraqbodycount.net is a good place to start. They document all their sources VERY well.

Also, while it's mostly Saddam loyalists and terrorists killing Americans, most of the -political- turmoil is coming from the Iraqis wanting us out. Find pics of the protests, shouldn't be hard to do... One pic that stood out to me was a guy holding a sign that said "Bush = Saddam = {the Star of David}" Another, which is kind of a rallying cry for Shiites: "No to Saddam. No to US. Yes, yes to Islam."

Also, look at the "Liberation?" flash at www.bushflash.com .

3. the question makes me laugh - I mean really laugh...
...not exactly a spew-my-coffee-on-the-screen laugh, but not far off.

Tell yer freeper that one of the last suicide bombers who was identified post-bombing - he was 24 years old, no political affiliation, never had much political opinion, had a job - basically not yer "dead-ender" profile at all...I dunno what that tells yer freeper, but I know what that tells me...

4. They HATE Bush... many like the American people
It's a difficult thing.

One of my students, who is from Fallujah, his family has not had electricity/running water, etc. since the end of the war. This is the untold story in Iraq. Outside of any political motives, people are desperate to return to something like normalcy.

7. they love the smell of depleted uranium
most of all. They love finding out that their liberators are worse then Saddam. They love finding out that no one had any interest in the people of Iraq and only wanted their oil. They love the fact that their offspring are riddled with defects caused from our depleted uranium from the 1st gulf war only now to be a 100 fold what it was. They love it that we have destroyed their land and their future. Of course they love us.

8. I have no idea.
But if my oppressive yet stable lifestyle that I learned to deal with over 20 years or so, was suddenly replaced by American democracy that literally exploded on the scene and killed thousands in the process, I''d not be throwing flowers.

And a year later, the explosions continue. Not from the Americans, but from outsiders. Hmm. Would I hate Sadam, America or the outside terrorists. (That assumes Americans aren't considered outsiders.)

I would curse whoever killed my loved ones. And while we're cursing, where's my electricity? Can I get a job where I'm not going to be blown up? Can I survive the toxins unleashed by the shock and awe bombs? Who do I hate? Let me count the ways.

10. I've met many
Who seem to genuinely like the United States. Granted, I've mostly been in areas that were predominately Shia, so sentiments are probably more pro-American than areas in the north.

One thing for sure, however, is that the media definitely publishes negative stories while leaving out any positive ones. Attacks will get published. Shipments of medical supplies and renovating schools do not.

11. The Shia will stop being pro-American quickly
if they do not get real elections, not just a choice between US-selected candidates. They are expecting their numbers to dominate, and are comparatively quiet. No elections and the Shi'ite areas blow sky-high.

12. It will be touch and go at times
But I am confident that the Iraqi Shia, Sunni, and Kurds will be able to work together to build a successful, strong, and stable representative government.

13. Not if the US tells them who their candidates have to be
There are tens of thousands in the street with "Yes, yes for elections! No, no to selections!" or something to that effect.

16. Then what are all the pro-election demonstrations about?
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article5757.htm

Iraqi Shiite Leader Seyyid Ali Al-Sistani yesterday warned that he would call for an intifada (uprising) if American soldiers stayed in Iraq after the handover of power on June 30, 2004. He also insisted that there should be a significant role for the Shiite in the future administration of the country, as they make up the majority of the population.

Sistani spoke to the German magazine Der Spiegel and said: "The U.S. presence in Iraq should not be prolonged. The Iraqi public knows how to act. If the U.S. presence is drawn out longer than necessary, I will call for an intifada." The necessary posters reportedly have already been printed and are awaiting distribution to every corner of the country.

Sostani's comments come in the wake of Commander of the Coalition Ground Forces in Iraq, Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez's statement on Wednesday that American troops might continue their deployment in Iraq for years to come and U.S.-Appointed Administrator to Iraq Paul Bremer's request yesterday that coalition members to maintain a presence in Iraq until the end of December 2005.

Now, you tell me. How is the above compatible with the following?

http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=17923

Garner added, ''Look back on the Philippines around the turn of the 20th century: they were a coaling station for the navy, and that allowed us to keep a great presence in the Pacific. That's what Iraq is for the next few decades: our coaling station that gives us great presence in the Middle East."
