Do Dems "self destruct" more than Repukes?
I've been wonering about this since at least the midterm elections in 2002 and the recall election in California this past fall.

Why is it that Republicans can manage to remain in lockstep with their party's leaders, while Democrats tend to snipe, bitch and back bite? I'm not blaming anybody; I'm just as culpable as the next person.

I've been really, really pissed with John Kerry about a number of things--mainly his vote for the war in Iraq. However, this time the stakes are simply too high for me to be bitching about it. Bush is far, far, far worse than anybody we could ever nominate. I'm not saying a negative word about Kerry other than to my immediate group of friends. In public, I'll put on a cheerful face and extol Kerry's virtues. We have to win this time with a wide enough margin that will prevent those fuckers from stealing another election. We can't afford to lose.

2. Because Democrats are conscientious.

And I mean that quite literally.

Here's a great example: Howard Dean said he wanted to solicit the votes of "every guy with a confederate flag bumper sticker in his pickup truck."

This was a controversy among Democrats. How could he say this etc. He seemed to be endorsing the Confederate flag. He got roundly criticized...by Democrats. I'm sure you remember.

Republicans, in the same exact situation, woudn't even know what those complainants were talking about. The man is talking about soliciting votes. End of story. Whatever it takes to win. It's great when you know you're "right" and "correct" and have no qualms whatsoever about faking people out to get what you want. Republicans probably found the Howard Dean/Confederate flag controversy laughable.

Bear in mind that that point isn't the flag per se. The point is that a Democrat argued that he wanted the votes of a constituency holding an opposite political view...analagous to "Reagan Democrats"...and Democrats objected.

Conscientious to a fault.

3. I think you are right and goes back to who is in each party.
We are the party of gray thinking and they are the party of black and white. That is why the right wing seems to try and put tags on us. They do have a set group that believe such and such and God help you if you do not. You can not dissent and they even put you off Free Republic for saying things they do not like, where as we are all over the place. No one seems to cares.

4. I think you're right also. It's those very variants that makes me certain
of needing more than two parties in this country!!

Not all of us in here are straight democrats--we are just crammed into the Dem party because there isn't anywhere else to go. Some in here are moderate, some are merely liberal (whatever that means), others are socialist, a few are libertarian dems.......then there are the "greens" etc etc. WE NEED MORE THAN TWO OR THREE parties--->This is as plain as white bread! The rest of the modern world has it that way, why not us?

We will never have a meeting of the minds as a single left party.

5. The corporate media is hired to "self-destruct" all opposing voices of
corporate media and special interests.

There you have it. The truth lies AWAY AND A FAR from the media and IN the hands of smart, caring Americans.

Its up to us.

Take away the fear-mongering tactics, and you have smart, intelligent, caring Americans.

Theres the answer.

7. Certain personality types determine which political party one belongs to.
Us Democrats tend to be more free spirited, think for ourselves, and so on. We just don't conform like Republican type personalities do.

BUT having said this - we must, must, must unite behind our candidate and put him in the Presidency - or we will never have another chance!
