When Bush ran for office, I don't recall him saying "and I promise to fill my cabinet with people from the American Enterprise Institute and the Project for a New American Century and follow them wherever they may lead me." As far as I can tell Bush just kind of let Cheney stack the deck after the election. It seems to me Republicans didn't know what they were buying.
It would have been nice for the primaries, and still nice now for us to pressure our candidates to tell us what policy institutes they're aligned with.
What policy institutes does Kerry endorse? What policy institutes endorse Kerry? What policy institutes are generally used by progressives?
To me it seems like NGOs can augment our democracy. I can't count every vote my politicians make and analyze everything they say, but I can trust some of the groups to say what they mean, and to say if they think politicians are on their side.
