An idea that could get BIG ratings for the new liberal channel on Cable
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 09:13 AM by Truth Hurts A Lot
I'm not even sure if there will be a liberal channel, but I think a show that could get HUGE ratings would be one that was dedicated solely to ripping apart everything O'Reilly & Hannity say in their nightly shows. Every night, the host of this show could refute, point for point, O'Reilly/Hannity's rants from the night before. Ideally, the host would be allowed to use actual video clips of the O'Reilly show but somehow I don't think FOX would allow that. The show could be filmed live in front of a studio audience who would then get to answer questions.

The show would serve two major purposes: entertainment and education. Too often, people like O'Reilly and Hannity get to voice their opinions without challenge. When strong democratic/liberal guests come on their show they can't handle the pressure and they turn down the mics, etc. A show like this would also create a buzz/controversy and that is great for ratings!

1. There's so many damn liars, they need not only focus on Hannity
They could have a huge wheel called The Wheel of Lies. You give it a whirl, and whever it stops they take apart that persons arguements for that segment of the show.

3. I think if we use mostly comedy we'll be more effective
I would like to see us focus on satire and comedy something like the Daily show. We can not go toe to toe with the Fascists because most liberals don't like that sort of "in your face" confrontational attacks. We will bomb if we try and "out-republican" them. We need something funny and refreshing to get the widest audience possible. Most people are turned off with politics and do not like the constant bashing like we see from the right. Granted there is a segment that thrives on titilation and confrontation but I doubt we will get much of that audience. It is actually a fairly small percentage of Americans that listen to the likes of Rush and Hannity and O'Reilly. We neeed to entertain and throw in a few facts here and there but we do need to have at least a portion that is dedicated to getting the Facts out.

6. There is room for both kinds of progressive programs.

The Daily Show proves humor can be effective political commentary (more viewers than all three "news" channels)

Yet, there are many liberals who long for an in-your-face progressive political show.

It makes sense to use both types of shows - especially with 24 hours a day to program.
