1st president since Herbert Hoover to seek re-election with a net job-loss
The political battle over jobs Bush, Kerry focus on employment, economy

http://www.newsday.com/business/ny-bzecon0304,0,5883044.story?coll=ny-...

WASHINGTON -- Politics is a rough sport. But perhaps the harshest four-letter-word President George W. Bush and his Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry will trade this election year is spelled J-O-B-S. snip

By virtually all projections, he will be the first president since Herbert Hoover to seek re-election with a net job-loss during his first term.

Further, the administration's promise last April that last year's tax cut would generate over 510,000 new jobs in 2003 and 1.4 million by December has not been met. In all, 2.3 million jobs have been lost since Bush took office.

In Bakersfield, where unemployment exceeds 12 percent, far above the 5.6 percent national average, Bush praised workers gathered at a local irrigation system supplier as "people who are on the front lines of job creation," and stressed the importance of extending tax cuts already enacted, even though they would add nearly $1 trillion to the cumulative budget deficit over the next decade.

1. I wish the Kerry Campaign would quit saying
"since Herbert Hoover" and start incorporating
just how many years ago that was.

Including a statement that it was 70 years ago
that job losses have been this bad gives a bigger
picture of just how dismal AWOL's economic
leadership has been. That was our great grandparents
time....they could show pictures from the great
depression to hint on just how bad things could
get if we don't change our leadership.

3. Selective Memory
It amazes me that Herbert Hoover wrote a 2 volume set of memoirs - that never mentioned the Depression or the Stock Market Crash. That's selective memory.

2. the Nation needs a good ol' refresher course in our history
... and, campaign ads, since they're part of 2004, can be very useful in this regard ...

some rote memory in school ... trickle down Hoover 1929 Great Depression New Deal ... is good

Under his leadership, lots of folks wound up in Hoovervilles, ie., homeless and if things continue here and now, we might see quite a few Bushvilles...

But of course, that is the Republican agenda, is it not; to completely destroy the New Deal as we know it including medicare and social security? After all, it's like communism...the rich elite will of course, let us eat cake.

1% of the population controls 90% of the wealth I believe.
