...the truth is still there. In all its bold and bald glory, it contradicts everything the Bush Administration is saying - about Iraq, about the economy, about his "strong" leadership, about the 9/11 commission, about taxes, about his political ads, etc. After all is said and done, the fat hog is still standing there with lipstick smeared all over its face. It is no movie star - it is still a hog.
The truth is that George W Bush invaded Iraq on a bunch of lies. There were no WMDs, there were no nuclear weapons, there were no immediate threats to our nation. The truth is that the huge taxcuts for the rich have not spurred our economy - they have not created more jobs. They have only given the wealthy more money and, in fact, have created large deficits that have done the exact opposite of what Dubya proposed. They have dragged our economy down.
The truth is that on Sept 11th, 2001, George W Bush had spent almost as much time off the job as he had spent on the job. He had just come off a month-long vacation at his pig farm down in Crawford. The truth is that on Sept 11th, he was asleep at the wheel. After all, Dick Cheney was in Washington taking care of his business. The truth is that he was no "leader" at all. He was only a spokesman for the oil and business interests that hired him to speak up for their interests.
The truth is that he thinks he doesn't have to answer to the people of this country. He thinks he is above the law. The 9/11 commission is nothing but a nuisance to him - not something that he should be seriously concerned with. After all, what right do the people have to know the truth?
The truth is that he can spend all of his $150 million on feel good ads, showing the flag waving over the rubble of the WTC, and school children pledging allegiance to that flag, and wishing for people to see him as the hero of the day. But the truth is that it happened on his watch. The buck stops with the desk in the Oval Office, no matter how seldom it is used.
After all his deceitful means to divert people's attention to other matters and his pathetic attempts to define the truth as something totally in opposition to reality, the truth about the record of George W Bush remains. As Joe Friday used to say on the old Dragnet series, "Just the facts, Mam", so it is with this deplorable and dishonest White House regime. Just give us the facts. Do not put more lipstick or earrings on that hog and tell us it is Jayne Mansfield.
