Possible Kerry Supreme Court appointees right off the bat?
In my opinion, with a Kerry win, we could very well see the retirements of John Paul Stevens and Sandra O'Connor immediately. Our senate races this fall serve a very important role in this regard. A Kerry win and a pickup of some Senate seats would serve as a great mandate for Kerry to come in and find a Stevens replacement. The appointment of a new Chief Justice might fall under Kerry's tenure as well, he can either appoint an existing Justice, or nominate a new one altogther. Both must be confirmed by the Senate. Some possible nominees:

Alan Page, born 1945, former professional football player who attended law school after his playing career and has made his way up to the Minnesota Supreme Court. Would be the 3rd African-American Supreme Court Justice. Has served extensively in regards to civil rights litigation.

Eliot Spitzer, born 1953, current Ny State Attorney General. Top notch corporate crime fighting resume. Has served the interests of the state of New York with dedication.

any others????????

I'd pay $1000 to just watch Orrin Hatch's facial ticks during the Senate hearings!

10. Neither was Earl Warren, but Edwards is way too public.
He's too associated with a political party.

5. Too old.
We need to get a younger guy in there. Mitchell is in his 70s.

6. Alan Page would be a great choice.
Part of the Purple People Eaters Vikings defense of the 70s, as hard as it may be to believe, he saved his best performance for the courtroom. Was courted by the party to replace Wellstone on the senate ticket in 2002, but chose not to run. Educated, informed, articulate man and would make an ideal justice.

7. I agree, he's my first choice.
I think he could get approved fairly easily as well.

13. None of them would get through
Remember who has to vote them in. They won't. The war over judgeships has escalated too far for that.
