Hypothetical Moral Dilemma, Re: Republican chickenhawks
Let's say Bush is elected this fall and, as expected, brings back the draft in 2005. That summer induction notices start going out. Then lets say you learn of a local neighborhood young man who used bogus excuses to evade the draft. These mitigating circumstances were all patently false and fabricated lies. You know for a fact that he is a healthy young man. You also know for a fact that he is a huge Republican Bush supporter who cheered on our war in Iraq. What do you do in this situation?

2. I would kick his ass as well.
These boys would be the real danger to our national security, and the draft board that let him get away with it would be full of accomplices to murder.

3. If they draft me,
I won't hide. By that time I'll be done with 2 years of university, and under the old WWII rules that would qualify me to be an officer in times of conscription. I'd serve without complaint, then do my best to take care of all the unfortunate draftees under my command who couldn't avoid the draft. After that I'd lord it over all those little whiny Repub. bastards who shirked their duty and then dare them to question my patriotism. Although perhaps I should learn me lesson from the martyrdom of Max Cleland in that regard.

4. Ah yes
you too can aspire to be a war veteran and a candidate for public office someday. Just think, right now your presumptive Republican opponent is probably sitting around tonight, drunk in his frat house, with no plans to fight in the wars he is cheering on. Mom and Dad have some friends at the country club who are on the draft board to take care of annoyances like that. But rest, assured, someday this guy will be attacking YOUR patriotism.

7. Ahem
I'm asking for the other posters' opinions and I'm trying to have a calm, cool discussion about it. While I don't apologize for my opinions, I posted my sentiments in an unnecessarily inflammatory manner in the archived thread to which you refer.

8. Translation-
I meant what I said but should have put it in better language so as not to be so flaming obvious.

10. Will work from the inside
I am an ex-CPT Armor, also a paratrooper who served in combat. I just applied to serve on my local draft board. My goal is that the kid from downtown Poughkeepsie will have the same chance to serve as the kid from Mill Brook!!!
