Bush's new ads are great! (on edit : not great, professional)
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 09:29 AM by mdmc
For all the hype that I read regarding using 9-11-01 footage, the ads were very well done, and I was not at all offended by the 9-11-01 footage.

My roomie, when he overheard the ad come on from the other room, yelled, "That bastard! He should be ashamed of himself!" He had heard of the controversy.

But when he saw the ad, he didn't think that it was bad. He remained pissed however, because he claims that Bush promised not to exploit 9-11-01 for his political gains.

I laughed, and reminded my roomie that EVERYTHING that Bush has done since 9-11-01 has been an exploitation of that event.

My question to DU; Did Bush refuse to use 9-11-01 in his reelection strategy?

1. Someone who has time should research what the White house said
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 09:32 AM by John_H
when Rove's floppy disk was "found" and when the RNC put out pictures of Chimp on his day long flight (from danger). Bet they said they weren't going to politicize 9-11 on both occasions.

2. Yes, Bush said he wouldn't make it political issue...
"....meeting with House and Senate leaders at the White House in January 2002, "I have no ambition whatsoever to use this as a political issue."

5. I think it was after the tape was found just before the 2002 election...
And Rove, on the tape, said they would use war, war, war to win the election. When that was made public, Bush and crowd said they would not use 9/11 as a political issue, to the best of my recollection.

7. does a three second flash of 9-11 footage in a commercial
constitute "use" as in 'I have no ambition whatsoever to use this as a political issue.'? I say that it does.

My point was that the ad was professional, understated, and reinforced the GOP message.

The negative of the ad, that it exploits 9-11, is very discreet.

11. That is how propaganda works, mdmc
Propaganda is designed to purposefully be "professional, understated" and "discreet," so as to influence as many people as possible into going along with the guiding the sheepies' thought processes "reinforcement" campaign. It works - you yourself are a prime example.

12. Then the best way to counteract this ad, in your opinion?
The ad didn't change my vote, LOL! And it sure did anger up my non political roommate.
I think that this ad has to be addressed by the firefighters and 9-11-01 victims. We need to support them in their opposition.

Following is a quote from the article "Brainwashing America" by the former head of the Dept. of Artificial Intelligence of the US Army War College, Dr. Norman Livergood.

In an earlier article, I reviewed the varied aspects of personality profiling and simulation. While serving as Head of the Artificial Intelligence Department at the U.S. Army War College, 1993-1995, I conducted studies on profiling, psychological programming, and brainwashing. I explored and developed personality simulation systems, an advanced technology used in military war games, FBI profiling, political campaigning, and advertising. Part of my discovery was that:

unenlightened human minds are combinations of infantile beliefs and emotional patterns

these patterns can be simulated in profiling systems

these profiling systems can be used to program and control people

Personality simulation systems are being used to create political campaigns that apply voter profiles to control their voting behavior. TV commercials and programs use personality simulation to profile viewers to control their purchasing and viewing behaviors. And sophisticated propaganda and brainwashing techniques are being used by the Bush junta to keep American citizens under control.

17. You're welcome mdmc
I found the following quote from Dr. Jose Delgado of MKULTRA especially chilling msyelf (it's about one third of the way down from the top). It creeps me out anyway.

"We need a program of psychosurgery and political control of our society. The purpose is physical control of the mind. Everyone who deviates from the given norm can be surgically mutilated.
The individual may think that the most important reality is his own existence, but this is only his personal point of view. This lacks historical perspective.
Man does not have the right to develop his own mind. This kind of liberal orientation has great appeal. We must electrically control the brain. Some day armies and generals will be controlled by electrical stimulation of the brain."

Dr. Jose Delgado (MKULTRA experimenter who demonstrated a radio-controlled bull on CNN in 1985) Director of Neuropsychiatry, Yale University Medical School.

3. he said he wouldnt use
in order for all to rally around him after 9/11 in essence creating enviroment where everyone backed bush and no one questioned him. this created the enviroment where if anyone said anything about bush, they were unpatriotic shutting people up for a couple years, loss of rights further it stopped everyone from questioning the event itself, except 9/11 families

here is the rub. no commercials are not bad, they are done up well that is not the offense

9/11 families in investigating bushco about the event and prior to event learned a lot of things that shows bush was not being a good leader in this and may have had a part allowing to happen with info they have gathered. they want to ask questions, as they have right and bush says no or an hour and two people in room has fought commission all the way. this is what is offensive to the family

further after 9/11 though he says he was empathitic for the people many things he did, fudge epa reports on ok breathing the air to cutting and shutting down firehouses to not federally funding states for uppin the state securities throwing some states into deficits all leads to these family, saying legitimately,.........

you are not a good leader wiht 9/11 and we dont want youto use it.

surely you can see how they are offended. then further

yes more

bushco comes out to families and call them whiners cause they are protesting the ads

so do tell where there isnt err on bushco's part

10. Only if 9-11-01 victim's families protest the ads will there be an
error ob Bush's part. The ad is flawless in its subtlety.

4. You might recall
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 09:24 AM by MrBenchley
for a while he was peddling $75 photos of himself on Air Force One being "presidential," i.e., posing with a phone to his ear....Some bloggers compared the photos to his appearance at the elementary school and discovered he'd taken the time to change his shirt and tie...

8. No. They're Not Great.
Leaving aside any mention of 911, these ads are just smarmy retreads of every McDonalds', detergent, perfume, car, breakfast cereal ad you've ever seen Ñ and you've seen thousands.

All the stereotypical symbols are there Ñ the flag, the smiling children, the elderly, the soft music, the soft-focus photography, the wife (Laura) "standin' by her man", etc.

I'd call them professionally done, but without an ounce of creativity Ñ and I've been in the graphics business all my adult life.

14. I changed the thread title before reading your post
because I thought that it was inflammatory.

I agree that they are professional, not great. How do we counteract them? _
And what are those N in your posting above?

9. use the big lie to cover the small lie
I saw the commercial as well.

What got me upset was that they used a big lie that everybody will talk about ("no ambition to use 9/11 for political purposes") to mask the smaller lie that was inserted in the beginning - how Bush* inherited a recession when he came into office in January of 2001. Hello, the recession started in March of 2001!

19. There's two ads...
...one which shows human remains being carried out of the hole, and one which doesn't.

I'm most offended by the HR images - as the widow of a 9/11 victim said, how do you know it's not your husband's remains in that ad?
