Symbolman: your Army of One has gone International!!!

From the Guardian Talk Boards:

Be sure to see this everybody if you will.

Must Watch: A Tribute to Our American Troops--And Their
Betrayal by the Bush Cartel (Flash Presentation)

http://www.takebackthemedia.com/onearmy.html

And DUers....if you haven't watched Symbolman's most poignant flash video, it is a must see.

**I don't know, but I might have helped it get to the Guardian talk boards. I was pushing the flash video on Portland's Indymedia, and the post from the Guardian is from my state. So maybe....... don't mean to take credit.....but it made me think: What a small world!

1. origins
I hadn't seen this, DagmarK; thanks for posting it. It certainly is hard to watch this and then think of bush and Wolfowitz out there with their talking points about what a wonderful job the troops are doing--all to deflect criticism on how they lied to get us into this mess. The hypocrisy is staggering.

Can you explain the origins of "army of one?" I probably read it but has slipped my mind. I want to know because I saw a bumper sticker with "Army of One" on it the other day and I just knew it had something to do with the effort to take back our government.

Also, interesting info at the Guardian discussion group about the magazine owned by Berlusconi and its role in disseminating the Niger story.

"Together we stand, an army of one."

3. Gosh, Cher......I have no idea...........

You saw a bumper sticker with Army of One? Wow...I just thought it was symbolman's idea. But I guess it means something rather common -- and no doubt poignant.

Maybe it's a catch phrase from the neo-cons? Like some sick.....WE ARE ONE force .....totally united or something (a la flag waving stuff).

*****Oh, just read the post above. An Army thing. Well.....that does make the title of the video all the more poignant.

4. The term Army of One
came from recruiting commercials for the Army. See http://www.goarmy.com/index12.htm

5. Can someone tell me WHY the Army chose "Army of One"...
as their slogan?

It's about the dumbest fucking ad campaign I've ever seen. "My name's Sgt. Melvin Cowznofski, and I'm an Army of One."

Are we so self-obsessed and fuck-everybody-else in this nation that it actually appeals to kids to go into combat by themselves, without the support or comaraderie of others?

8. It's supposed to appeal to those that want to
be bad-assed Rambo types, even though they'll most likely just be part of a massive organization with the built-in office politics, bullshit headgames, ridiculous SOPs, just like everyone else :7

Perhaps it's also taking the Marines' "the few, the proud" one step further? They started with the stupid Nintendo Mario-Bros/Dragonslaying CGI effects in their commercials, so the Army countered with some idiot doing a solo pack-run in the middle of the desert.

9. This is so powerful -
these pictures are worth a thousand words, symbolman, especially the last one.
I feel so much for the families of these men and women who are losing their lives in this horrible mess in Iraq.
Thank you again, symbolman, for your gift.

12. Take all the credit you want
'sokay with me - we're all in this together and really appreciate you spreading the word!

Do you think the Guardian would write something about this, cos I'm pretty sure the US papers aren't going to do it..

this needs to get out there and we are working on it, we have a film crew and production company (People to people TV) here in town who are getting it in shape to get it on the Tube..

we might have to do test marketing with it like that Bush LIAR commercial they are testing in Madison, Wisconsin (and Sinclair is refusing to air it) --

BUt we are getting donations and they are building and we are going to push this baby!

Come take a look and tell your pals to help us out, all donations are appreciated - all sizes fit :)

Many thanks for the headsup on this one,

Peace and LOve,

symbolman
