1. he also took "responsibility" a bit too late
When the story first broke, Tenet and others quickly jumped on their swords - where was AWOL?

Blaming everyone else - so by the time he accepted responsibility it was too little too late and too weak of an admission.

general scuttlebutt in my neck of the woods is that when he took responsibility it is being seen as an admission that he lied.

2. "He took responsibility for 16 of the words in SOTU" - Bob Boudelag
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 08:51 AM by robbedvoter
summed it perfectly. I agree with you.
This is something we keep in abeyance as we focus on say, the 9.11 report. As proof of treason pours in, our letters to the editor can have a little reference such as: The Niger story prove you cannot trust what W says, so his mainaining that he protected us needs the SOTU test: which 16 words of this statement are the lie? (of course, that goes for any other lies - on the recession, war etc)

3. I'm Not So Sure
That's why his poll numbers will remain low, and his credibility will remain in doubt.

I'm still not convinced that the sheeple view things this way. We have to be careful of wishful thinking that clouds our view to the intractible problem in this country of a happily disengaged citizenry and a complicit media. I simply no longer trust my fellow citizens to do the right thing and vote these trolls out. They seem too enamoured with the killing and meaness - the whole "Kick Their Ass Take Their Gas" mentality.

4. ...
Yeah...the Sheeple still think that it was a good thing AWOL was in 'Charge' on September 11, 2001.

Thanks for your quote= 'Kick Their Ass Take Their Gas'
That's the real truth and a truth the Sheeple can't handle. I'd have much more respect for the lot of 'em if they'd at least admit to the real reason we invaded.

5. This story is not going to go away...
the mainstream media has smelled blood, and that is all it took to awaken the giant. Right now, there are hundreds of investigative journalists out there piecing the thing together. Right now, they are taking a breather. Besides, the assininity of Poindexter and his 'gambling in terrorism' created quite the stir.

The bushista's know they are going down. The acceptance of responsibility for those 16 words, was indeed late. They went through everyone that couold be sacrificed before bush accepted responsibility. None of the others, had anything stick to them, bush had to do this because there was no let up in the criticism.

In any case....there is something waiting to be discovered in this fiasco; and while the media does it's digging....I will keep a sharp eye out for diversions, (like this idiotic Kobe Bryant case, he's been charged, but the public is having the trial. How assinine).

6. The SOTU story was very helpful to us
It would have been nice if it had actually brought him down, but I never expected that to happen, unfortunately.

What it DID do, however, was take a great deal of shine off the teflon coating. Because it related to "security" it seemed to break down the wall that made people reluctant to criticize him (that stunt on the aircraft carrier in which he declared the "Battle of Bahgdad" over helped, too).

I'm very happy with how the SOTU story worked for us. It is the Wilson story and its lack of traction that I'm disappointed in.

7. Like you PeteNYC I was puzzled by Clinton's remarks
There was an unreal air to the press conference. Here was a roomful of people walking on eggs, as it were. The assembled journalists shared the sense that to put Bush on the spot about any one of a range of questions—the quagmire in Iraq, the budget deficit, the growth of unemployment—carried the risk of a presidential meltdown. The timidity and banality of the questioning was, in large measure, a reflection of THE GROWING FEAR WITHIN ALL SECTIONS OF THE MEDIA AND POLITICAL ESTABLISHMENT, DEMOCRATS(insert Clinton
Support here) AS WELL AS REPUBLICANS (my emphasis), that a crisis is looming in America that could set off an unprecedented wave of social and political struggles.

8. Yada, yada, yada - and a blow job too!
You are starting to sound like freepers obsessing on a Larry King show from last month to attack dems again. Back to your cave!

9. could you be more specific, robbedvoter?
Are you saying the Dems have a well thought plan
that they've been faithfully executing for the past 3
years?

Is there a reason that the voters regularly put into
power pols who vote against the workers' interests?

Do you think that we'll be pulling out of Iraq
once a Dem is in charge?

"Chaos," Vidal told NCR by fax, "until we either come to our senses and leave -- not likely any time soon -- or complete the neocon plan so boldly stated by their youthful 'warriors,' by annexing as much of the Mideast oil states as possible."

Chomsky: If Bush isn't removed, we'll be in either Syria,
Iran, or Andean Region(inserting regime) by this time next year.

Will the Dems stop this? Don't hold your breath.

11. And the BigConspiracy: we're outta oil
See oil price spike $1.70 per bbl
because of pipeline explosion north of
Baiji Refinery in Iraq.

Petroconsultants: By 2007 world oil
production falls off.

We're at peakoil now.

Gas will be at least .06 higher by next Sunday.
