Ed Gordon: Dean will win the nomination, but has to make sure he doesn't go over the cliff, or it will be a blowout in November.

David Brooks: President Bush is assuring his base he will nominate a solid conservative for the Supreme Court, if an opening comes up

1. Sam Donaldson is wrong

Hillary will not go back on her pledge to the people of New York. Dean will win the nomination and will run on his record which is moderate enough that Bush can't get away with labeling him an "extremist". David Brooks needed a crystal ball to come up with that one? and What will happen in August? which will force the press to actually work?? it would have to be big.

Also, must point out that Dean may very well get the nomination, but no matter what he says or does, it will NOT be a blow-out. Dumbo is too vulnerable. There have been a lot of comparisons to Nixon v McGovern, but Nixon wasn't vulnerable during that election--Watergate was not in the national consciousness then--the failure in Iraq is now.

...blowing Bush right out the damned door. I want a massive win, with big long coattails. And Dean is doing well with men, who notoriously just punch the top button. We're talking straight Dem tickets. Seriously, Bush could be the dumbshit that cooked the golden goose. Handed everything in life, with all the hopes and dreams of the GOP tied around his neck, he can bring it ALL down...

I'm hoping (and working for) them getting spanked so bad they NEVER EVER try foisting another god damn Bush or PNAC shill upon the American people again...

8. Well, Huckabee is helping Dems

Gov. Huckabee, Repub. of AR, has alienated almost every AR parent recently. He is trying to overhall the education system by consolidating small school districts. This has garnered enormous opposition, which Huckabee dismissed as "...all because of sports. The parents were poor at playing ball themselves and are trying to live vicariously through their children". So it looks like the GOP is going down in AR locally-which could only help the Dems win back the governorship and the Presidency. Now if only we could take Huckabee's stupid genes and transplant them into Jeb Bush.....

6. I agree with you. Plus Dean is way more savy than George Mc.

Dean will never stand by and permit himself to be defined and villified by the other side, the way George McGovern (and Al Gore and Mike Dukakis) did. Dean can think on his feet. He's tough. And he's a creative campaigner.

You're right about Nixon. In the '72 race he was still seen as the guy who had inherited LBJ's war. The peace movement was semi-marginalized. Most importantly, the economy was good.

Watergate was a story that appeared only once during the campaign. I remember reading it on page 18 or so of my Sunday paper. It was not until nearly a year later that it earned a follow-up.

'04 will not be '72. It will be another squeaker, imo.

To those who (accurately) said that Dean wasn't as radical as he has been painted so Bush can't paint him as a radical, I offer these reminders.

Truth doesn't matter...remember Max Cleland?

I am personally agnostic about Dean, but remember that when the real battle begins, Rove, Reed and company will hold nothing back.
