Newt might have actually been on to something.....
I know this sounds weird but a balanced budget amendment sounds like a good idea considering what Flubya and his cohorts are spending nowadays.

For example, what happened to Republican support for balanced budgets, term limits and eliminating unfunded mandates?

Hmmmmmm?

4. The liked balanced budgets when there was a Democratic president
becaus ethey knew it would hamstring him when they added pork into all the bills.. But when they have one of their own in the white house, it always changes..

The whole balanced budget thing is a fallacy.. That's like saying your budget is balanced because you had enough to pay your monthly bills, but you owe 20K in credit card debt and have a 200k mortgage..:)

2. Republicans want a balanced budget amendment when they're not in control.
Maybe Newt is reading the tea leaves for November.

5. That's the other half of the "starve the beast" plan.

Of course they'll like the idea of balanced budgets now.

Education? Health care? Social Security? Sorry! There's just no money after we pay for "defense", and we've got this balanced budget ammendment now. It's just out of our hands.

6. Balanced Budget Amendment
was a bad idea, but a great hammer for Republicans to hit Democrats with for all those years.

The flip side was campaign finance reform. A very stupid idea, but it sure was fun hammering the Republicans with it for all those years.

7. Yeah, but Flubya things would be different
With the exception of some of the money that was spent for cleanup of the WTC rubble and some other things, we wouldn't be spending money out of the pockets of me, my kids', my future grandkids and so on to help pay for Flubya and VP Crashcart (I just love that name) and their bedbuddies to get richer off of the Hellisburning contracts.
