Our DU soldiers got their leave cancelled
Edited on Fri Mar-12-04 10:50 PM by SoCalDem
As those of you who have been sending care packages probably know, they rotated out of Iraq and went back to Germany.. They were supposed to have a month's stateside leave, and then some more training..

Mary & Jim (Jimmy's parents) said that he called the other day, and their leave was cancelled.. They are going to Afghanistan.. Apparently they will be hunting for bin Laden now.. after a year of Iraq....

So they will probably still be needing care packages..just a different location.. Thankfully NONE of our guys got hurt in Iraq, and hopefully they will stay safe in Afghanistan..

I don't know when they will leave, but Mary will get their new address, when they get there..

She was devastated because they had not seen him in so long and they were looking forward to having him home for a month..:(

8. Great!
Sign me up.

I have a cousin in Iraq and I'll be sending him packages as soon as I get a place to send them. I'd like to send other packages, too. It's probably the only way i can make a direct difference.

9. Have him get names of some of his pals there
give you the names & apo & we'll send them all stuff too.. We had a lot more people wanting to send boxes, than we had soldiers.. when you get them, just pm me and I 'll add them to the list.. Please don't post them in the forum.. We don't need the freeps sending them Sean Hannity's books

12. I'll call my aunt this weekend...
thanks :)

I'm sure they'll appreciate it.

Just some background: My cousin was just ending his first term in Germany. He'd met a German girl and they were planning to get married when he got out. The Army offered him a bonus to stay in and guaranteed him in writing that he'd get to stay in Germany. He saw it as a way to keep doing the job he was good at while starting a family.

Two weeks after he signed, they told him he was going to Iraq...

Just miserable.

I'd like to give each one of them a big hug.

Then I'll give you 100 yards of low-crawl, off the mats.

13. Damn.
They're bent on turning these kids into warriors for the long haul.

That's all I want to say.

Good luck kids. Fare well. Come home.

They were reveling in the bloodshed. It was bad.

17. sorry to be a nimrod ,but are these folks
DU members?
Are they friends and/or relatives of DUers?

Of course it sounds like a suckotorium whatever but I was curious if there was a personal DU-necction.

18. Jimmy is the son of my friend
I have known him since he was 8 yrs old.. His Mom told me a while back that she felt bad because when they sent him packages, he said there were some of his fellow soldiers who had not even gotten a piece of mail, let alone a care package.. I mentioned it here, and everyone just volunteered..

15. My wood spliting neighbor kid got out on time
He is back after nine months of fighting and has been very helpful here.

He just helped me split eight cords of wood and stack it for the sugaring that is well under way.

I hope your boys get home soon!

20. this is a political deployment
and it stinks to hell and back.

the insipid chimp needs to portray himself as the 'scourge of terrorism' to whip up the masses.

this is just awful news.

p.s. I've still got literally 100s of paperbacks (all genres) that (if they'd be appreciated) I'd be happy to box up and send.

22. Boy that sucks!
You'd think they could let them come home for one lousy month, for Chrissake! Thank God they all got out of Iraq alive.

Wouldn't it be amazing if they were somehow involved in the capture of Osama? I feel pretty sure that Bushco will arrange for his "capture" before November.

Anyway, I'll be glad to resume the care packages once they get an address in Afghanistan. Thanks for the update.
