Son of gay marriage foe weds in San Francisco

David Knight, son of the state senator who was the author of the California ballot measure that banned same-sex marriage, defied his father's law and wed his partner of 10 years Tuesday in a quiet ceremony attended by just two friends in San Francisco City Hall.

Knight, a shy 42-year-old cabinetmaker and former Air Force fighter pilot, broke his long silence on his father's politics in 2000 to denounce Prop. 22 and talk about the pain it caused his family. He had told his father about six years earlier that he is gay.

on the one hand how wonderful that this chap is coming full circle in his life -- and making very courageous steps.
on the other this father filled with some very real venom -- and because he cannot love his son as he is -- the joy of the prodigal's return cannot be experienced.
the anti-gay marriage thing exposes two things for me one is about the right and the depth of bigotry they hold as a group and the other is that in america we have some serious twisted folks out there when it comes to thinking about sex. and i don't mean that in a fun way.
