4. She's no Republican Party girl
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/167032p-146062c.html

First Daughter Barbara Bush may be devoted to her father, but not necessarily to his party.

Recently, a source asked the 21-year-old Barbara if she was a Republican. "She made a funny face and rolled her eyes," reports our snitch. "She said, 'I really wouldn't label myself that.'"

3. George W. Bush: Flip-Flopper-In-Chief
FICTION: John Kerry is a 'flip-flopper'.

FACT: The Republican spin machine has accused John Kerry of being both 'consistently liberal' and a 'flip-flopper'. They can't even get their spin straight. The fact is, John Kerry has worked steadily and tirelessly to improve the lives of ordinary Americans and to promote mainstream American values. George W. Bush, on the other hand, leads what John Kerry calls "the biggest say one thing, do another administration." Here's a list of Bush flip-flops at this link:

17. Bush Fights Firefighters with Fire
http://www.alternet.org/print.html?StoryID=18073

Dammit, the problem is not that the ad is in bad taste, the problem is that Bush screwed the firefighters in a famous case of his favorite bait-and-switch tactic, and now he has the chutzpah to exploit them anyway and that, my friends, is gall. Bait, switch and then claim credit anyway.

For those of you who have forgotten what happened (apparently including the entire Bush campaign): Shortly after the 9-11 attacks, President Bush promised a $3.5 billion aid package to provide equipment and training in dealing with such attacks to local police and fire departments. For over 18 months, no money appeared, and when money finally did appear, it was nowhere near the promised levels (hey, he had to cut those taxes on the richest 1 percent of Americans).

Furthermore, the New York City firefighters who worked Ground Zero were specifically screwed. They were promised $90 million to monitor the long-term health effects of breathing in all that ash for months while they cleaned up. The money was to have been included in the overall post 9-11 aid package for New York City, but it got shifted to another bill that Bush rejected the following August. About half the workers screened before the money ran out suffered from respiratory problems.

Report Faults EPA for Water Claims

Fri Mar 12, 6:47 PM ET

By JOHN HEILPRIN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The Environmental Protection Agency incorrectly claimed to have met its goals of ensuring that at least 91 percent of the nation's drinking water was meeting federal health-based standards from 1999 to 2002, the agency's inspector general says.

"The agency reported meeting its annual performance goal for drinking water quality even though it concurrently reported that the data used to draw those conclusions were flawed and incomplete," the EPA IG's office said in a report this week. "EPA's own analysis, supported by our review, indicated the correct number was unknown but less than what was reported."

23. House Members Urge Bush on Clean Water
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=ap/clean_water

Tue Nov 25, 8:50 PM ET
Half the 435-member House, including 26 Republicans, wrote President Bush (news - web sites) on Tuesday urging him to scrap his administration's efforts to change Clean Water Act regulations that could reduce the scope of waterways protected nation

In the letter, 218 House members, including all but 14 of 205 Democrats, said Bush's preliminary rule-making efforts "represent attempts to remove federal protection from waters - including many streams, wetlands and natural ponds - that have been covered by the Clean Water Act for decades."

"Sometimes we lose sight of the basics, and clean water is an absolute basic," Leach said.

Dingell said the administration went beyond the court ruling and "we do not want a rollback."

Environmentalists said those actions could result in a loss of federal protection for millions of acres of swamps and bogs considered "isolated" from larger water bodies.

18. McCain Says WMD Commission Needs Subpoena Power
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/nm/20040307/pl_nm/congress_mccain_dc&e=1&ncid=

Sen. John McCain, an Arizona Republican, said on Sunday the commission created by President Bush to investigate intelligence failures in the buildup to the Iraq war needs subpoena power.

McCain, a member of the bipartisan panel, said such powers would give commission "certain credibility," and voiced hope an agreement would be reached to obtain it.

Asked on ABC's "This Week" if he would continue to serve on the commission if it did not get subpoena power, McCain, a maverick, said, "I'd hate to throw down a gauntlet like that."

Bush, under pressure from Democrats and Republicans, created the commission on Feb. 6 to determine why no weapons of mass destruction have been found in postwar Iraq. The Bush administration cited the threat of such weapons programs as a primary reason for the Iraqi war.

56. David Kay: Bush Should Admit Error on Iraq WMD
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=ap/kay_iraq

Former U.S. weapons inspector David Kay is advising President Bush to acknowledge he was wrong about hidden storehouses of weapons in Iraq (news - web sites) and move ahead with overhauling the intelligence process.

"You are better off if you acknowledge error and say we have learned from it and move ahead," Kay said in a 90-minute session Thursday with AP editors and reporters.

"I'm afraid if you don't acknowledge error, and everybody knows why you are afraid to acknowledge error, your political opponents will seize on it, the press will seize on it, and no one will give you credit," Kay said.

Since resigning last month, Kay has said repeatedly that U.S. intelligence was wrong in claiming that Saddam had stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons and advanced nuclear weapons programs. Those programs were the main justification for the Iraq war.

19. Leak of Identity of CIA Operative - TREASON
According to a Washington Post, October 10, 2001, article, President Bush said:

"I want Congress to hear loud and clear, it is unacceptable behavior to leak classified information when we have troops at risk."

However, according to Insight Magazine's 2/17/04 edition:

Federal law-enforcement officials said that they have developed hard evidence of possible criminal misconduct by two employees of Vice President Dick Cheney's office related to the unlawful exposure of a CIA officer's identity last year. The investigation, which is continuing, could lead to indictments, a Justice Department official said.

58. Traitor In The White House - Air Force One Phone Records Subpoenaed
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/06/politics/06INQU.html

The White House said on Friday that it had received subpoenas in late January in the investigation into the leak of an undercover C.I.A. officer's name and that it was complying with the demand for an array of information, including records of phone calls to and from Air Force One during President Bush's trip to Africa last summer.

Confirming a report published Friday in Newsday, the White House spokesman, Scott McClellan, said the White House had received the subpoenas from a federal grand jury looking into how the C.I.A. officer's name came to appear in a syndicated column by Robert D. Novak last July 14.

Mr. Novak attributed the information to two "senior administration officials." Knowingly disclosing the name of an undercover C.I.A. officer can be a crime.

21. Bush Continues To Lie About Jobs, Economy
According to a transcript of the The Early Show on CBS (3/10/04):

President Bush heads to economically depressed Ohio today. He'll defend his economic program in a state that has lost more than a quarter of a million jobs since he was elected. At an awards ceremony Tuesday, the president argued the economy was on the upswing…

However, the Bush “economic program” has failed to create a SINGLE new private sector job last month. He did expand the government and add government jobs.

24. VFW: "Bush budget is a Disgrace and a Sham"
Last year, while troops were at war, the president proposed slashing $1.5
billion from military family housing and tried to "roll back recent modest
increases" in bonuses paid to soldiers serving in combat zones. Meanwhile,
the president refused to extend the child tax credit to one million children
living in military and veteran families.

And this year the misleading is only getting worse. While the president
rambles on about how much he appreciates troops and veterans, Congressional
Quarterly reported on February 4th that Bush's own Secretary for Veterans
Affairs told lawmakers on Capitol Hill that the president rejected a
desperate request for $1.2 billion in funding needed for veterans' health
care. Many lawmakers said the president's decision "only proved the
administration's disinterest in supporting veterans' programs." The Veterans
of Foreign Wars issued a statement after receiving the White House's budget,
calling it "disgraceful" and saying it was a "disgrace and a sham."

25. Bush Slashes Veteran's Benefits
http://inthesetimes.com/comments.php?id=465_0_2_0_C

* With 130,000 soldiers still in the heat of battle in Iraq and more fighting and dying in Afghanistan, the Bush administration sought this year to cut $75 a month from the "imminent danger" pay added to soldiers' paychecks when in battle zones. The administration sought to cut by $150 a month the family separation allowance offered to those same soldiers and others who serve overseas away from their families. Although they were termed "wasteful and unnecessary" by the White House, Congress blocked those cuts this year, largely because of Democratic votes.
* This year's White House budget for Veterans Affairs cut $3 billion from VA hospitals-despite 9,000 casualties in Iraq and as aging Vietnam veterans demand more care. VA spending today averages $2,800 less per patient than nine years ago.
* The administration also proposed levying a $250 annual charge on all Priority 8 veterans-those with "non-service-related illnesses"-who seek treatment at VA facilities, and seeks to close VA hospitals to Priority 8 veterans who earn more than $26,000 a year.
* Until protests led to a policy change, the Bush administration also was charging injured GIs from Iraq $8 a day for food when they arrived for medical treatment at the Fort Stewart, Georgia, base where most injured are treated.
* In mid-October, the Pentagon, at the request of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, announced plans to shutter 19 commissaries-military-run stores that offer discounted food and merchandise that helps low-paid enlisted troops and their families get by-along with the possiblility of closing 19 more.
* At the same time, the Pentagon also announced it was trying to determine whether to shutter 58 military-run schools for soldiers' children at 14 military installations.
* The White House is seeking to block a federal judge's award of damages to a group of servicemen who sued the Iraqi government for torture during the 1991 Gulf War. The White House claims the money, to come from Iraqi assets confiscated by the United States, is needed for that country's reconstruction.
* The administration beat back a bipartisan attempt in Congress to add $1.3 billion for VA hospitals to Bush's request of $87 billion for war and reconstruction in Iraq and Afghanistan.
* In perhaps its most dangerous policy, the White House is refusing to provide more than 40,000 active-duty troops in Iraq with Kevlar body armor, leaving it up to them and their families to buy this life-saving equipment. This last bit of penny-pinching prompted Pentagon critic and Vietnam veteran Col. David Hackworth to point to "the cost of the extraordinary security" during Bush's recent trip to Asia, which he noted grimly "would cover a vest for every soldier" in Iraq.

27. Bush Ordered Medicare Plan Cost Estimates Withheld - SOUNDS CRIMINAL
http://www.gazettetimes.com/articles/2004/03/12/news/nation/frinat03.txt

The government's top expert on Medicare costs was warned that he would be fired if he told key lawmakers about a series of Bush administration cost estimates that could have torpedoed congressional passage of the White House-backed Medicare prescription-drug plan.

When the House of Representatives passed the controversial benefit by five votes last November, the White House was embracing an estimate by the Congressional Budget Office that it would cost $395 billion in the first 10 years. But for months the administration's own analysts in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services had concluded repeatedly that the drug benefit could cost upward of $100 billion more than that.

Withholding the higher cost projections was important because the White House was facing a revolt from 13 conservative House Republicans who'd vowed to vote against the Medicare drug bill if it cost more than $400 billion.

30. Un-Elected Bush Funds Coup Of Democracy
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=500711

Washington has been channelling hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund the political opponents of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez - including those who briefly overthrew the democratically elected leader in a coup two years ago.

Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that, in 2002, America paid more than a million dollars to those political groups in what it claims is an ongoing effort to build democracy and "strengthen political parties". Mr Chavez has seized on the information, telling Washington to "get its hands off Venezuela".

Jeremy Bigwood, a Washington-based freelance journalist who obtained the documents, yesterday told The Independent: "This repeats a pattern started in Nicaragua in the election of 1990 when spent $20 per voter to get rid of Ortega. It's done in the name of democracy but it's rather hypocritical. Venezuela does have a democratically elected President who won the popular vote which is not the case with the US."

39. Criminal Hand-Picked by Rummy to Lead Iraq
The story below tells the sordid tale of Iraqi National
Congress leader Ahmad Chalabi. This is the man hand-picked by Defense
Secretary Rumsfeld to lead post-war Iraq.

http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L17557784.htm>

AMMAN - Jordanian deputies will lobby the government to extradite Iraqi
politician Ahmad Chalabi, convicted in Jordan of embezzling millions from a
bank in the late 1980s, a leading parliamentarian said on Sunday.
Mahmoud Kharabsheh said he was finding wide support for a petition he was
circulating among deputies to hold a special session soon in the 110-member
house to demand the government take legal steps to seek Chalabi's
extradition from Iraq.

A Jordanian court tried Chalabi in absentia in 1992 and convicted him of
fraud and embezzlement, sentencing him to 22 years' hard labour.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&node=&contentId=A35744-2002May17¬Found=true

The top-secret briefing memo presented to President Bush on Aug. 6 carried the headline, "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.," and was primarily focused on recounting al Qaeda's past efforts to attack and infiltrate the United States, senior administration officials said.

The document, known as the President's Daily Briefing, underscored that Osama bin Laden and his followers hoped to "bring the fight to America," in part as retaliation for U.S. missile strikes on al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan in 1998, according to knowledgeable sources.

http://news.independent.co.uk/low_res/story.jsp?story=498039&host=3&dir=62

The former chief UN weapons inspector Hans Blix has declared that the war in Iraq was illegal, dealing another devastating blow to Tony Blair.

Mr Blix, speaking to The Independent, said the Attorney General's legal advice to the Government on the eve of war, giving cover for military action by the US and Britain, had no lawful justification. He said it would have required a second United Nations resolution explicitly authorizing the use of force for the invasion of Iraq last March to have been legal.

A British group that opposed the Iraq (news - web sites) war said it wants the International Criminal Court in The Hague (news - web sites) to consider whether Prime Minister Tony Blair (news - web sites) should be tried for war crimes.

Legal Action Against War said Tuesday that it was also asking the court to look into similar alleged offences by Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon and Attorney General Lord Goldsmith.

It said "a principal charge" against the four men was "intentionally launching an attack knowing that it will cause incidental loss of life or injury to civilians".

40. oh man... look at this post from Mari333
she's called into Guy before.............

watching my husband cry

everyday. Is too much for me. Today we recieve an email from his son that Michael's compound is being mortared in Baghdad. My husband has that to deal with that all day today ...then, when my husband goes to the store, he is driving along and a guy in a truck gets up on his bumper and starts honking at him and then passes him screaming at my husband.
the back of our car has a picture of our stepson on it, his service picture, and many Peace signs. So
Basically, we are a military family with a kid in Baghdad being attacked by mortar rounds today, and we are being attacked here by assholes in trucks because we are against this war.
My husband just came home, sat down, and started crying.
Ive had it.
I have really had it.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040308/ts_alt_afp/us_vote_poll_040308223842

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry would beat President George W. Bush by a significant margin if a presidential election was held now, according to an opinion poll.

The CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey indicated the Massachusetts senator would win 52 percent of the vote compared to Bush's 44 percent.

A similar polls in January gave Bush beating Kerry by 55 percent to 43 percent.

Bumper stickers, as recorded or created by a Web site called "politicalhumor.about.com" run by a fellow named Daniel Kurtzman, suggests a list of possible bumper stickers:

"Bush/Cheney -- Four More Wars"

"Bush-Cheney -- Leave No Billionaire Behind"

"Bush/Cheney -- Compassionate Colonialism"

"Bush/Cheney -- The Last Vote You'll Ever Have to Cast"

Or, take Jay Leno, who had this to say a couple of weeks ago: "Political experts are saying that the reason John Kerry is doing so well is because he's electable. Hey, so was Al Gore (news - web sites) -- in fact, he even got elected, and it didn't help him at all."

102. Democrat Vs. Republicans
Democrat. A liberal view of government in which power is destributed to the people who choose representatives by majority vote of citizens.

Republican. A term that is similar in meaning to the Roman term Publican as in, Publicans and Tax collectors (those hated by the jews for their decadence and irreverence for the jewish religion). A group of persons who believed that power should be distributed by a vote of ruling members of a given political office called the Senate. Senators were voted into position by lords and citizens of rome. Non citizens, prisoners, religious zealots and poor citizens were often not allowed or prohibited from voting in these elections.

So can we stop blindly referring to terms whose definitions we barely know now?

All of the Republicans who believe that they are representing "freedom of choice" or "god's good work" are doing nothing of the kind. You have been duped by wealth and a polluted definition of the party into believing that it actually cares for either of these issues. Just as Senators did in Rome, the public appeals to things that are popular were spoken allowed in the theatres, but behind the doors Business and corruption ruled the Senate because too much power was given to too few hands. The concepts which made up this definition years ago remain the same in politics today, albiet in perverted forms.
