Haha -- Now O'Reilly at war with Frank Rich
It's a Rich Battle as O'Reilly, Times Critic Square Off in Culture War
By Nathaniel Popper

The culture war sweeping across America sometimes can appear to boil down to a sparring match between two men.

In one corner is Bill O'Reilly, representing the Fox News Channel and the new brand of conservative populism sweeping the nation. In the other is Frank Rich, wearing the colors of the New York Times and liberal urban culture.

This past week saw one of the most heated rounds yet between these pugilists of punditry.

On Monday, the Fox host devoted the editorial segment that opens his top-rated cable news show, "The O'Reilly Factor," to slamming Rich for his "savage attack on Mel Gibson."

While the launching point was Rich's outspoken criticism of Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ," O'Reilly spent most of his time condemning Rich as a member of the "elite media," which, O'Reilly said, "believe that the majority in the country — white Christian Americans — are prone to oppressing the minority."

During his tirade, O'Reilly complained that liberal "elites don't debate, they attack and marginalize."

5. You can never win a war of words with a talkshow host
Why? Not because their ideas are better, but because they have sychophantic followers who will declare victory no matter what their hero says. Also, talk show hosts can see to it that they always have the last word. They have a guaranteed microphone, every day for two or three hours. You'll always be flanked by them, because they will always have that last word.

6. The "Forward" has always been an...
... interesting paper, but I'm afraid they've missed the boat in describing Fox and O'Reilly as exemplifying a "brand of conservative populism."

Sort of an oxymoron, methinks, at least by established political definitions.

But, O'Reilly must know what he's talking about when he says, "elites don't debate, they attack and marginalize." Hey, that's what he's done throughout his career at Fox. O'Reilly's definitely the elitist, playing the ballgame by his rules, with his ball and on his home field.

9. And I suppose he had nothing to say when
Mad Mel said he wanted to kill Frank and "wanted his intestines on a stick, wanted to kill his dog." If that's not an attack, I don't know what is.

O'Lielly is such a smarmy, hypocritcal idiot!! Isn't it about time for Al Franken to humiliate him again??

15. not to mention
Gibson has optioned O'Really's book for the film rights. So now not only are we subjected to Gibson's one-sided interpretation of the New Testament, we will have a film coming out from the two of them. :puke:

10. LOL!! Frank Rich compares O'Reilly to Father Charles Coughlin.
An anti-semitic radio host of the 30's, and Ted Baxter of the "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". Man! Rich has got it right, O'Reilly is a blowhard just like "Ted Baxter" - LOL!!
