The dominoes are really falling fast...
Did anybody see this coming?

"TOKYO, March 12 -- The first impeachment of a sitting South Korean president came after a furious battle of words and fists inside the National Assembly. But the range of public reaction -- from celebration to sorrow -- exposed the real drama confronting South Korea: a profound ideological rift now dividing a nation that has been one of the most important U.S. strategic allies since the Korean War."

As far as I can tell the "news" media was even less on top of this than they were on Haiti. According to this article, Roh was yet another do-gooder brought down by powerful business interests:

1. So many little nations to meddle with,
so little time. The wheels are coming off.
As always, the powerful are the last to know.

2. My local news covered this story in a long segment which didn't even try
to explain what the two sides stood for.

That was a big sign that the bad guys won this battle.

If the good guys had won, they would have told us how awful they were.

3. With NK flexing their nuclearl...
Once he was elected and started to make overtures to the North, we decided to pull our troops back from the DMZ. The SK legislature said WTF!

He's gone.

5. I saw English-speaking South Korean TV news coverage
of the impeachment. There was chaos within the National Assembly. Legislators were throwing papers, furniture, and just about anything they could get their hands on. There were fist fights and grown men on their knees in tears.

His sin was that he publicly appealed for people to support candidates of his party. It appears that the true reasons for Roh's impeachment are that he is too progressive and insufficiently pro-America.
