http://news.com.com/2100-1028-5172948.html

SNIP:...."A far-reaching proposal from the FBI, made public Friday, would require all broadband Internet providers, including cable modem and DSL companies, to rewire their networks to support easy wiretapping by police....

SNIP..."The FBI's request to the Federal Communications Commission aims to give police ready access to any form of Internet-based communications. If approved as drafted, the proposal could dramatically expand the scope of the agency's wiretap powers, raise costs for cable broadband companies and complicate Internet product development....."

SNIP...."Because the eavesdropping scheme has the support of the Bush administration, the FCC is expected to take it very seriously. Last month, FCC Chairman Michael Powell stressed that "law enforcement access to IP-enabled communications is essential" and that police must have "access to communications infrastructure they need to protect our nation."END SNIP

Scared yet? I am. It seems they are trying to take away our privacy at a much faster rate now. They really are.

I'm sure that most "evil-doers" out there are already encrypting or encoding their online communications, if they're even foolish enough to put anything of import out on the net. This will ultimately be used against regular people, so it's best to at least have the tools to protect your privacy...

3. To protect our nation?!?!
From what? Porn? Cheap downloads of Britney's latest garbage? Don't tell me, lemme guess - Osama is buying airline tickets at Priceline. What unmitigated gall. Dubya's vision for America is a police state.

5. Bush is the anti-Christ!
I swear, between this and that Ohio Dept of motor vehicles database they're creating (it's in LBN under "terror database"), I think it's all over.

Ya' know, if you're not getting your news online, everything out there looks perfectly normal. I would say that 90% of Americans don't have a clue that the police state is being constructed before their eyes.

What's even more scary is that I think even if people knew, they wouldn't give a damn. As long as they can have their Big Macs and watch "Extreme Makeover" they'll be happy. :-(

6. We bash Bush...but many Democrats might have done this as well

I can see a President Lieberman doing this even perhaps a President Kerry. The excuse need not be terrorism. The reason might be kiddy porn or caving again to the RIAA.
