2. I don't see the point of this
Unless the Bush girls decide to get into the political arena, I really don't see the point of attacking them. We don't know for sure that they share their father's politics.

4. because bush in all his arrogance
is telling us how to raise our kids live our lives, our family values.

the tricky on dictating family values to others, leaves self open for critisizm. he had better make damn sure his closets are all in order before telling me what i am doing right and wrong.

5. Agree
George and Laura are fair game, but the girls seem off limits to me. I remember a thread a few weeks ago that the girls were not R's and don't buy into their father's ruining of the environment.

6. Exactly, this kind of personal attack is disgusting.
These girls have never in anyway hurt anyone. I know for a fact that Babs doesn't share her fathers politics, and I have heard that Jenna has even been to a few war protests.

14. Oh? And were you thinking the same thing when Amy Carter and...
...Chelsea Clinton were getting dragged over the coals by the GOP? Neither of those kids broke the law repeatedly or flaunted their position in public, and they still caught hell. I'll never forget the awful off-color "joke" told by McCain about Chelsea Clinton's parents being Hillary and Janet Reno.

Yes, it's ugly. But, it's all part of the politics at that level, and the GOP has ensured that every family member is fair game. You want somebody to blame, blame the GOP.

16. I thought it was terrible when they did it to Chelsea,
as for Amy Carter I wasn't around yet. The only law these girls broke was drinking while underage, I am the same age as them and I have been drinking just as long as they have so I am not going to throw any stones. If you are going attack their character for underage drinking then you have to attack about 90% percent of Americas youth with them. They also hate the public spotlight, just because cameras follow them doesn't mean that they want them there, in fact when Shrub told them he was going to run they both ran out of the room crying.

The GOP does a lot of things that are disgusting, and that in no way makes it fair game. By that logic lets say a year or two into Kerry's Presidency he should be able to wage a fake war in order to line his buddies pockets and raise his poll numbers. As a rule of thumb if the GOP does something and it makes you feel sick, then it is something that we should not do.

12. The minute they chose to break laws, they were in the political arena...
...and if they didn't know their actions would become public knowledge, someone in the Bush Crime Family should have told them.

Politics at that level is a cruel and vicious game...just ask the daughters of Carter and Clinton who never did anything to deserve the attention they received.

18. I agree... but
I have seen posts in the Kerry forum about his Catholic annulment and making his girls bastards. Which isn't at all how a Catholic annulment works. It is important to remember that the other side has NO line they will not cross.

8. They're kids in a very bad position. Their dad is a fake president and
Edited on Sun Mar-14-04 06:43 PM by acmavm
every thing they do makes the news. I bet they just want to be like the rest of the kids they know. I hardly think that they are in any way responsible for the crap that their illustrious father had pulled.

I remember the really horrible treatment Chelsea got at the hands of republicans during her dad's administration. They savaged her.

Aren't we better than that?

edit: I need to start using spell checker, though in this case that wouldn't have helped.

11. I have very mixed emotions about this thread...
on the one hand...he and his ilk (Dr. "I'm a stay at home mom" Laura) think that they have a monopoly on family values. It's disgusting that they play that card at EVERY POSSIBLE TURN. Even when it has blown up in their faces (Rush, William Bennett, etc.). Then we look at Chelse who has truly turned out to be an incredbily intelligent and wonderful young woman (gasp....how could the "evil Clinton's possibly have raised her?"). However, I'd HATE to be judged by things my parents did and believed in. It's not fair...they're kids (I consider folks in their early 20's kids so I hope I'm not offending anyone). They are partying college girls like a lot of people their ages are. However, because Bush is so f'ing arrogant about FAMILY VALUES- I see where people see the disconnect. Bottom line, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones AND I still feel really sorry for those girls (that's what's wrong and what's right about being liberals- we truly are compassionate. Unfortunately, It may be some of the reason we're in this mess. We don't like to fight but now we HAVE TO. :-(

15. i am not going after these girls
i dont even know about the girls and as someone says what they did to chelsey was horrible. that is not what i am saying in my post above. these girls are behaving exactly as teenagers do. and they are allowed and may get in trouble on the way, but i hope we would be patient with them as i hope we are considerate to all going thru these years. werent so long ago for me that i forgot some of the things i did

this is not in judgement of the girls. this is in the hypocrisy of bush and the right.

and it looks to me they are having fun, not hurting a single person.
