Is THIS the "October Surprise?"
Edited on Sun Mar-14-04 07:21 PM by LandOLincoln
Just found this post and link in the "Politics and Current Events" section of another message board:

"This is the third article from Tehran and environs in the past two days claiming that the US is now (within the past week or so) covertly delivering the arsenal of weapons which have 'eluded discovery' by UN and US teams thus far. They match the specs of the WMD US officials have claimed Iraq has been secreting away. One can't guess at the credibility of these reports, but the fix may be in.

Osama may be caught, if he has not already been secured as the most coveted devil-in-waiting. But the real October surprise might well be the 'discovery' of WMD the US may now be unloading."

(on edit: I meant for this to go in the GD: Campaign 2004 forum. Mods, please move it over. Thanks.)

1. Maybe.
It takes time to carefully fabricate believable evidence, you know. Not that they'd ever let anybody examine it closely for verification, of course.

3. yep.. I posted something on this last night and..
you are right on the money.

First it will be the fabricated WMDs then the main event, the Rovian dog and pony show, as Osama is trotted out for the masses with his tail between his legs.

Watch for it on a corporate broadcaster near you!

4. Now the Iranian government press is hardly reliable,
but that the WMD will be "found" sometime before the election has become IMO a nobrainer. They may be found in a cave with OBL, or around the same time. September WMD and October OBL, and they may top it off with a withdraw from Iraq for a grand slam.

Today on some talk show Rummy kept harping on the fact that Kay said the WMD search is only 85% complete. Rummy was quite confident that the last 15% is where they will be found. It couldn't have been more obvious.

The Democrats need to keep reminding voters that this outcome is predictable. The public is starting to realize * is a liar of the highest magnitude so maybe enough will see through the charade to carry us through.

7. WHen did Kay say this
If it was two months ago, than it's probably something like 90% or greater. Also even if we don't find the WMDs, * will start saying they are in Syria.

20. Rummy Says Iraq Weapons May Still Be Found
Here's an article on Rumsfeld's statements that weapons may still be found. He's saying that they need more time. HA!

..snip..
"Rumsfeld said 1,200 inspectors are continuing to look for weapons that could be well-concealed in a country the size of California."

"I think it's perfectly proper to reserve final judgment until we've been able to go through that process, run down those leads and see what actually took place," he said on CBS's "Face the Nation."
..snip..

Gee that's what he UN inspectors said.

And how about this gem:

..snip..
Asked on CNN's "Late Edition" if the war was worth the lives of the 564 U.S. soldiers killed, Rumsfeld said, "Oh, my goodness, yes. There's just no question ... 25 million people in Iraq are free."
..snip..

Fuck him!

5. The MAIN argument is
was an attack by Iraq imminent? Was it necessary to divert our resources to Iraq, instead of trying to destroy alquaeda? Was it worth it to give alqueadea 3 years to regroup, while we pursued iraq which was not an immenent threat?

NO!

8. Yes, and that's been the main arguement for a while
Even before we went in, many of us assumed Iraq was at trying to get new weapons.

6. I'm not sure finding WMD's in Iraq will have any efect at this point.
There are so many people pissed off at Bush over other issues, that I don't think suddenly uncovering WMD's will sway very many people toward him. I think most people voting for Bush are doing so despite the overwhelming evidence that the Iraq war was a based on a lie.

My boss at my part-time job shocked me the other day when she told me she wouldn't think of voting for anyone but Bush. She totally approves of the Iraq invasion, and basically feels the US needs to squash like bugs all other countires that present the slightest challenge to us. She sees the world as dangerous to her children and grandchildren, and that's all she cares about. And I imagine there are a lot of people like her around. Given how both "sides" perceive the istuation (IMO), I doubt the weapons matter now.

On another point: I do wonder, if they're going to plant WMD's, where will they do it that's in any way credible when they're "discovered"? I mean, it was a good six months or more ago that our own military gave up searching for them because, as they admitted, they had run out of places to look.
