2. Yes
There are a handful of representatives who claim no religious affiliation, but unfortunately (or fortunately if you're a fundy), any serious candidate for statewide or national office has to tow the line and support religion, namely Christianity.

4. Excellent question
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 12:07 AM by _Jumper_
There have been none that I know of that officially acknowledged that they believe in a religion other than Christianity and Judiasm. Several Western countries have Muslim MP's. Canada has Sikh, Muslim, and I believe Hindu MP's. It had a Sikh minister under Chretien. When will the US have a Hindu congressperson and a Muslim Secretary?????

8. Unitarians were in at the founding
Deists and Unitarians were well represented among the founding fathers and mothers. It was considered a rational and ethical attitude toward the universe and one's fellow man. That attitude was crucial to the language of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. One of the Big Lies told by the fundamentalists today is that the US was founded by Christians and only Christians, for Christians, some going so far as to claim that George Washington was a born-again, which he most certainly was not. But you keep telling the Big Lie and eventually everyone believes it's gospel. ;)

whuf Guess that hit a hot button.
