The Spain-hate starteth
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1097870/posts

Read it and laugh. Or weep. Or :puke:. Or all of the above.

To: MJY1288
Actually when you think about it, in some ways the Spanish are even worse than the French. Even Franco's worst critics are glad that Spain pretty much stayed out of the fighting during WW II, even though they hated the Fascists. In other words, let others do the fighting for us. At least some French did fight during WW II (albeit not very well).

Looks like we will need some NEW signs at our "Support Our Troops" rallies, post-3/11:

UNLIKE SPAIN,
U.S.A.
WILL NEVER
SURRENDER!

2. Spain is more neutral than Switzerland.
The Spanish are also the most educated people, per capita, and have managed zero population growth. They are a self-maintaining country. And they fight bulls with swords, not semi-automatic guns like Americans would do it. We could learn from them.

8. What they do to the bull...
BEFORE they fight it with swords ain't too pretty. But, bullfighting is dying a slow death over there. It seems more tourists than Spaniards go to the Corrida.

Only spent two weeks there a while ago, but I got the impression that Spaniards are the "least happy" people in Europe. Even more dour and severe than the Swiss. Dark, moody, and suspicious. Rarely smiling and even more rarely laughing-- not seeming to enjoy life very much. Perhaps the ghosts of Philip II and Franco are too difficult to exorcise.

Perhaps that's changing, or not all that bad after all. The images of millions marching in honor of the dead and praying for peace, not revenge, should be a lesson to us all.

16. I do believe the ghost of the past has haunted the Spaniards, and
perhaps we are being subjected to the same kind of history that has depressed the spirit of their people.

I also look to the people marching in the street as a promising sign.

39. What it's like in Madrid
You ask for directions to some place at a street bar, newsstand or whatever. If it's more than 3 blocks away, they'll actually stop what they're doing and walk you 2 or 3 blocks to assure you are on the right way. And start a conversation while they're at it. Happened to me quite a few times when I was there with wifey in 2000. Them again, I'm Brazilian, and everybody loves us. (modest, ain't I?)

So this freeper doesn't know what he's talking about. Shocker!

Spain didn't "let others do the fighting" for them; Franco stayed out because Hitler's support was vital in his winning of the Spanish Civil War. If "they" hated the fascists, then "they" hated Franco too!

Sheesh.

7. Had the misfortune of listening to Matt Druge last night....his take
is that the Spanish are "passionate" people by nature. This, he theorizes, explains their outrage at the bombings attributed to their government's ties to Bush.

My take on this is that it's a cheap attempt to stereotype people who are angry about being attacked due to ties with *.

I also heard on the Today Show this morning a "few thousand" people protested and ousted the old regime when in facts hundreds of millions protested. Seems the media is making every attempt to downplay the uprising in Spain.

Guess we will be boycotting Sangria next. :eyes:

14. And maybe they just decided that their government...
...put them in harm's way by backing the US, and didn't adequately defend them from the terrorist attack. You know, like how * was relaxing in Crawford instead of paying attention in August of 2001.

I thought a good comeback for the anti-Kerry "100 Days" ad would be pointing out how much of *'s first hundred days was spent on vacation.

And how about this:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/august01/2001-08-06-bush-vacation.htm
"Poll finds most are put off by Bush vacation" from a month before 9/11.

And the other amazing thing is. how fast Spain went on the "s*** list". I mean there is no new Government yet.

But all the support Spain has given already is forgotten in an instant.
There seems to be no concept of decency and gratefulness.

It has to be said: the Iraq war was clearly not a successfully war against terror - Spain had to pay the price for that fact in blood.

13. Lesson to all natons listening----
You can't trust Americans. They never "love" you; they use you and if you complain they wouldn't bat an eye at starting a hate fest against you. That's the way they manifest their "Christian love". So next time around, ask yourselves if there is ever any 'winning' in kissing Bush's rear end?! This is the way these people treat their own fellow citizens. As long as they are in power, you are simply trophies to hold up if you support us and entities to be destroyed if you don't.

My favorite reason to avoid Taco Hell is when you go to the drive-thru, you always hear this bubbly female voice asking you if you want to try one of their latest faux-Mex creations, and when you place your order, you hear some guy who sounds like Carlton the Doorman telling you to pull around to the window.

21. the interesting part to this
that I haven't seen anyone comment on, is that it means that people do hold their governments responsible for not keeping them safe. Does this mena that, god forbid, if there were to be another attack in the US or against US interests directly before the election, that it might not help the cabal stay in power? Conventional wisdom is that a terror attack helps Bush, but will it? interesting.

Unfortuneately, none of these right wing chicenhawks mention the fact that bash gives the real terrorists (SaudiArabia) a free ride. I just love how they act all macho while allowing the real enemy to flourish . They are tough enough to beat up on a broken down old man with a starving military in Iraq though.

Only the RW Fascists can ignore the true problem and pretend they are the party that is strong on defense.

Meanwhile the Dems have had great success in the defense department while the repubs are bogged down because of crappy planning and execution of military.

I can't tell you the number of repuke co-workers who said that France and Germany "would pay" for not supporting us by suffering from loss of tourism. I always responded that this was a good thing because any Americans visiting those countries now would not be the "ugly" kind.

Why would freepers want to go to Spain/France/Germany anyway? They don't speak English, and if you want good ethnic food, there's always Taco Bell/French Fries/Weinerschnitzel to take care of those cravings.
