Mary Landrieu working for Veterans
Senator Landrieu (D), LA is offering an amendment to phase out the sharp drop in monthly survivor benefits (SBP) that a widow of a servicemember gets when he/she becomes eligible for Social Security. Currently the drop is from 55% of the retirees check to as low as 35%. (The servicemember elects the coverage at time of retirement and PAYS FOR IT on a monthly basis similar to a life insurance policy). Landrieu says she does not expect the amendment to be passed by the gop senate however, "I would like (republicans) on record saying WE CAN AFFORD $2.6 TRILLION IN TAX CUTS BUT WE CAN'T AFFORD $2 BILLION (OVER 10 YEARS) TO HELP OUT MILITARY FAMILIES."

Military retirees who opt for SBP contribute to the fund every month so the $2 billion is available by their current and future contributions.

GO MARY!
