Wolfie is putting a phony spin on the Spanish elections results
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 01:13 PM by glarius
I've heard other Bush supporters say it too...He's saying that the reason the Spaniards voted out the party in power was because they were frightened by the terrorist attack in Madrid.....The fact that Wolfie and the others don't mention is that the Spanish government went against the wishes of their population to join the Iraq attack....According to what I've read, in polls, 90% of the people were against it...They had millions in the streets demonstrating against the war, pre war also.....In my opinion this election is the first time the people have had a chance to register their oppostion...

P.S. It sort of reminds me of when we in Canada almost decimated Brian Mulroney's Progressive Conservative party in the early 90's because of our disgust with his policies....

that is the talking point by the way

and speaking off, here is mine

Use it if you wish

Dear Sir, I know talking points are out ... but

Those of us who have CHOSEN TO FOLLOW both Spanish and British Politics knew that Aznar was going to be booted. Let me take you back over a year to February ... when over thirty-million people marched against the war WORLD WIDE. Over two million of those marched in Madrid. When polls were conducted over 80% of the population were AGAINST going to war in Iraq with us.

Now in case you wonder this is one reason why Aznar was booted out.

Second reason: (You need new anti terror experts by the way)... when Aznar tried to blame ETA for the attacks on Thursday ... it worked for a little while ... because ETA has in the past done things for which they miscalculate, but never to this extent. Once the data came out it starting looking increasingly Al Qaidish. So the people demonstrated on Saturday against a government trying to pull the rug over the Spanish People because ... as they feared, they became targets.

Now what is shocking is that the lackey US Media still thinks (unfortunately correctly) that it can pull the rug over the eyes of many Americans, especially those who do not have the time, or language skills to read El Pais (conservative Madrid Paper) on a somewhat regular basis ... and for the most part we like to be ignorant and rely on a press unwilling to do its job.

So how about mentioning in your reporting that 80% of Spaniards were AGAINST the war? What Rove does not want you to remind the American people how a FREE PEOPLE act?

Just wondering....

Sincerely,

XXXX XXXX, who after gagging will turn once again to the BBC world service.

3. Wolfie is worse than Rush
because, unlike with Rush, people think Wolfie is actually giving the news.

"the most trusted name in news". A lot of people believe that bullshit.

17. true
But there is another major difference: Blitzer is part of CNN International's program. He'll get lots of angry responses from Spain and other European countries.

4. This will be the spin
CNN is definitely helping Bush on this one. They need to get hammered with e-mail. I've e-mailed twice already today. They need to stay the fuck out of the election. If they hadn't covered for Bush constantly since 9/11, his poll numbers would be in the thirties by now. They've already started, "Do the terrorists want Kerry to be elected"? grrrrrrrrr

5. talked to a repub friend this morning
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 01:18 PM by Jim4Wes
I started the conversation by saying 1 down two to go (Blair and Bush). :)

That was his take too, that the Spaniards were reacting out of fear. I promptly slammed the whole Iraq war middle east democracy domino theory and told him the people of Spain were against it from the beginning.

Spain's election results:
Will it encourage terrorists to influence other elections?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3080261/

I take this as a way of insinuating if we vote against bush* we are for the terrorists. They are such fuckingly transparent whores it makes me sick.

8. and here is my email to them
Are you this transparent only today or just all the time? The question is phrased in such a way that it is clear what you want. If you vote for Kerry you vote for the Terrorists in November.

I know Mister Rove must think that this is the way to gain friends and influence people, and YOU the lackey US Media is playing along. Why? YOU ARE NO LONGER A FREE PRESS!

By the way, how does the fact that 80% of Spaniards DID NOT want to go to war in Iraq affect these elections? Any clue what happens when a Government GOES against the will of the people, and the people ARE A FREE PEOPLE?

Of course we must also ask ... why does this scare you so much?

12. That's a huge shocker, because Miles has been shilling....
... for the Bushies since they came into office.

Today on "American Morning on CNN, Jack read many letters, with the same "question of the day." Most letters laughed at the US media spin about terrorists influencing the results of Spain's election.

HEY... isn't voting a good thing? Isn't democracy what we are supposedly fighting for in Iraq? When people come to polls, vote their consciences, and those votes are actually counted, most free-thinking people are inclined to rid the world of overreaching, dangerous leadership.

Blair's next... and then Bush. I'm looking forward to it.

More power to the them for sticking to their convictions!

14. My Spanish friends say the election went to the Socialists
because Aznar LIED about who was probably behind the attacks, not because of the attacks themselves, even though 90% of Spaniards opposed the war.

In the 3 days between the attacks and the elections, it came out that Aznar and his foreign minister pushed the ETA theory to the foreign press and diplomats (the foreign minister sent a memorandum to diplomats), even though they had indications FROM THE BEGINNING that an Islamic militant group rather than ETA was behind the attacks. This was seen as a cynical political manipulation of information during a time of national tragedy. "Manipulation" is the word I have heard most often from friends in Madrid. It was the LYING that got the PP.

The fact that Spain appears to have been targeted for joining Bush's coalition may have been a secondary factor in the election, but it is seen as a disgusting abuse of the victims of the tragedy to lie for political gain about what happened.

15. Frightened?
They were so frightened they all stayed home with their doors locked, right? So who was out in the streets screaming with outrage!?!

If they were frightened of terrorism, and if the Bush Iraq fiasco were helping to fight the "war on terra," wouldn't they be clamoring for more of that?

Who's buying this?
